This is my brother's car. Bought used. Came with a Sony head unit that had no face plate.

In the rear are Sony XPlods that appear to be wired into the Bose/Clarion amps. I assume they're connected to the amps because when I unplug the amps, it goes silent.

Anyway, under acceleration, there's a whine/squeal that gets louder with more throttle. Is it likely the amps, or the new aftermarket head unit?

It's likely the amp is not grounded properly to the chassis of the car.

The whine is "alternator" whine.

Check the wiring... make sure the ground wire is connected to bare (not painted metal).

If this isn't it, then check to see if the rca wires from the deck to the amp are not near any other power wires (ie the amp power wire).

Took it to Best Buy to have them fix it, since its covered under the 4 year plan. They put a new HU in, which strangely enough helped a little bit.

Finally, we just ran new speaker wires. Seems to have solved the problem.
