95 G20 5spd - can't get into 1st/2nd

95 G20t 5-spd 150k. Backed out of parking space and can't get shifter into 1-2 gate. It's like its not there. Drove off in 3rd. Have normal tools. Considering removing boot and seeing if something is jamed, etc. Any help/suggestions or is this just a worn-out shifter.

Out of curiosity, how are your motor mounts? Are they pretty worn out?

Don't know how motormounts are...some shake before but not bad. Think that could have contributed to problem? My mechanic is going to tear trans down and see what's up...if i can fix it without full overhaul.

Well, I noticed that when the motor mounts are REALLY worn out that shifting is crappy, because the motor isn't aligned properly with the shift rods. My stock mounts were ok (I recently had replaced them) and then I swapped in a set of Place Racing mounts and it made the shifting that much easier... good fluid helps too.

It could very well be something internal, but if your motor mounts are really bad, it could be that simple and it'd be a much cheaper solution/fix...

Thanks for idea. I'll talk to mechanic. They said they unhooked the shifter to check it and 1/2 was still not moving right when they moved trans levers by hand.
