Hi guys...I just obtained a TCU and an ECU from a 1995 Q45. I plan to install both into my 1992 Q45...will they work fine? I'm trying to achieve that so talked about '1st gear start'. I've read somewhere here where someone said a 1995 TCU works very well with his 1992 Q. Another person also mentioned installing the ECU is a good idea also. Please advice on what's ideal and NOT.Thank you for your assistance!

Ideal is a late 1993 TCU with your ECU.

The later TCU are calibrated for higher (numerically lower ratio) 1st and 2nd gears.

The part number of the 1993 TCU is either 31036-64U20 or 61036-64U75.

The TCU you want comes from a car made from 7-92 to 2-93.

Copied from another post....

"The TCU you want is from a 1993 model year with part number 31036-64U20 or 64U75. Later 94-96 TCUs will work too, but the transmission in those cars are geared differently than the one in the 90-93. For best results having the matching ECU is a good plan... you tend to get better redline shifts..."

"The difference between the 64U20 and 64U75 is the U75 was a counter-measure TCU that was installed to reduce torque converter shock in vehicles built before 2/1993 (VINS ending in 250083 or before). The TSB is ITB94-023.The countermeasure part numbers for 1991 and 1992 models (2nd gear start) ended in 64U70 replacing 64U11 and 64U12 factory TCUs. Apparently this wasn't an issue on the 1990 transmissions."

Both are plug and play. The ECU harness connection will have to come off before the ECU can come out. Have fun on your first drive.

Try just the 1993 TCU first. Should be no reason to use the 1993 ECU.

I would agree, I've had 1993 TCU in my 92 for about a year with no problems at all. Its a nice up grade. You may want to keep the old one around for winter driving, 1st gear starts on wet or icy pavement can be challenging.

Yeah dude. Unless the 93 ECU has been blessed by Wes, you're not going to get much of a difference. The 93 TCU however will be GREAT on your first roll with it. Might be a little scary. I know it surprised the hell out of me when I put it in. I let the car out of the driveway and put it in drive on the street. I depressed the accelerator like I was used to doing back with my 92 TCU. That car took off SO HARD! It threw me back in my seat.

I still have mine too. That first gear is AMAZING on dry roads. Especially for a red light kill. But get those rear wheels wet? You're in for a bit of wheel spin. It's so powerful, I lost traction making a left turn, right after leaving the car wash. The road was dry, but my tires weren't. Same thing happened on another left turn out of a parking lot. These guys were powerwashing the sidewalk and I guess I drive through the runoff. I think my rear tires were sitting a shallow puddle. I spun so hard. I thought I broke something.
