My girlfriend just bought a '95 Chevy Lumina, 146,xxx miles. The other day the tranny started shifting really hard into the next gear. When you come to a stop, you almost have to completely stop to get it to shift back down to 1 and it still tries to pull you before it down gears coming to a stop. It's almost like it is shifting too soon too and causes the engine to jerk and bog down when it changes. I've done a fluid/filter change and added a bottle of Lucas, which did not change the outcome at all. Also, there was metal shavings on the magnet inside the pan. Someone had mentioned a shift sensor or solenoid might be causing the problem. What do you guys think? Do I likely need a new tranny or should I go ahead and change out the solenoids? I believe there is two.

If the solenoids are external to the tranny, I'd change those out. If internal, probably bring it to a transmission specialist and have them diagnose it.

Also do a google search for TCU diagnoistics for the 4T60. Not sure how much digging you've done, but the basics can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_4T60-E_ ... ssion#4T60

Good luck with the fix!
