I just bought a semi-ratted out '95 240. Body is in excellent shape, interior is a shade less than frightening. Following is what I need advice on:

16v motor (KA24DE?), where to find a full rebuild kit? switch to a jdm?

interior parts/pieces - carpet, seats (or covers), rear seat

I have not even started looking at local junkyards yet for glass, and non-important pieces. Have not even pulled the motor to see the extent of damage to block and hardware. ANY comments on what to do where to start are welcome.

stock engines that were swaped out can be had for cheap if you want, around $300. a lot less than a full rebuild. no full rebuild kits that i'm aware of.

you could swap in a different engine, but if you ask about it here, someone will track you down and punch you in the face. we've had a rash of newbies asking stupid questions lately and we're getting pretty sick of it. the information is out there and it's an opinion anyway, decide for yourself.

as for the interior, i say, gut everything except the front seats and trim panels. S14 parts are a little hard to come by, try a steam cleaner first.

post up some pics.

I will try to post pics this afternoon. My goals for this car are essentialy a stock build with good internals for a possible turbo upgrade in the far future. I want this car to take the place of my '89 240 as daily driver so I can spend some serious time and money on the '89.

I would like to keep money below $1500. That would basically be all parts and machining. Everything else I can do myself. Did get a look at the engine this morning and with a light you can see the rod bolts sticking out the side of the motor. So I am now looking for 24de short block.

If your trying to keep everything under $1500 your best bet would be to find someone selling a used KA. Everyone and their mom is swapping to SR's so KADE' can be had very cheaply. Once you get the motor plan to spend about $200-300 ON new seals and maintainence items and you should have a solid engine. As far as interioir your probally going to wind up getting each peice individually from Ebay or the junkyard unless you find someone who wrecked their S14, thatway you can just buy the whole interior
