Hello everyone, I'm a refugee from the J30 forum. I just picked up an s14 from a young kid stuffed with a blacktop sr20 engine and trans being run by a Power FC (alas, sans the hand held Commander). The car was apparently tuned pretty well, as it drives nicely and pulls surprisingly hard at only 7 lbs of boost on the stock turbo with FMIC, intake and full exhaust (easy 200whp on my butt dyno). I don't know who performed the actual physical conversion, but it does not appear to be a hack job. Indeed, the car only has two issues which are vexing me.

The first issue is the trans mount. Apparently Nissan does not even list a part number for a '95 5 speed transmission mount, but this vehicle has what sure looks like an automatic trans mount stuffed between the trans and the cross member (I have no idea if it's a 5 speed or an auto crossmember, which appear to look pretty similar). This set up would not bother me but for the fact that the rubber portion of the mount has partially collapsed leaving metal on metal contact transmitting LOTS of vibration in the cabin. So my question for others who have performed this conversion is: What are you guys running with; just a KA 5 speed crossmember? If so, how is it physically connected to the trans, via rubber bushings?

My second issue is the darn reverse lights. I purchased a KA manual switch to connect to the sr trans, but then discovered that the harness was not transmitting voltage. I've reviewed the following how-to at http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/automa ... -swap.html, but in looking at my passenger side kick panel I do not see a plug that fits the photograph. So my question is: where is the correct plug located on a '95 automatic car?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hopefully someone can chime in on the plug part of your post, I've only done the auto to manual conversion on the older S13s. As for the trans crossmember, the manual and auto ones are different. I don't recall if you can even use the auto one with the manual or not, but if you have any pictures of it, I could tell you if it is or not a manual one, lol. As for the trans mount itself, it looks like this:

Where the recessed bolts point downward. If it's "mush" now, I would just order up a new one. They are relatively inexpensive and easy to install.

That indeed looks pretty similar to the mount that's on my car and also looks similar to mounts that are on Ebay for 89-94 s13s (auto and 5sp). What's wierd is that my Nissan and NAPA sources (who could be wrong) say that, while a similar looking analog exists for the auto '95 s14, no analog exists for a '95 5 speed. Sooo, just to be as clear, are you saying that the picture you were nice enough to post depicts a manual s14 trans mount?

The reason I'd like to know is that the '95 auto trans mount is an absurd $200 from Nissan (typical Hawaii markup) and I'd hate to buy one if it turns out I have a '95 manual crossmember.

I'm pretty sure they rubber bushing is the same between the transmissions, but I could be wrong on that. Neither Courtesy nor FRSport make distinctions between the two. The $200 price point does seem to be on point for typical dealer markup. Courtesy lists things just a little above list, and they want $116 for an OE piece.

Thanks for the tip on where to get one for less than a king's ransome. $116 is quite a bit cheaper. I think the next time I see a manual s14 on the street I'm going to chase it down and ask the driver if I can take a peek under it. I'd say my chances are 50/50 that I won't get slugged or arrested.

Just a heads up as to my reverse lights question. It turns out that I was looking at the "how-to" for an s13 conversion, not the one for s14s. Furthermore, my small brain also finally figured out that for BOTH s13s AND s14s, the plug in question is not located in the passenger side kick panel, but is next to the passenger side fuse box in the engine bay. Der.
