hi, i have a 95 altima with manual trans...it has been months already when i first heard a scratching noise coming from the bell housing, i've made a research, from hanes manual and from few mechanics, and same thing they told me, it was supposed to be the springs in the clutch disc, or maybe the throw out bearing...so, i week ago i purchased a clutch kit from SpEC...and jst finished installing it today...took us thhe whole day to do it in my friends garage...i replaced the clutch disc, throw out bearing and the preasure plate....i checked the flywheel and it is ok, no cracks or scratch of any kind, we jst clean it and install the new clutch kit,,i checked the old disc and throw out bearing, and it looks fine, no loose springs on the disc, and the bearing doesnt even make any noise.....so basically the clutch i had on, was still ok...after the installation, the scratching noise is still there...this noise goes out everytime i press on the clutch pedal, we tried to adjust the height of the pedal, but the noise is still there...i cant say that it can be the trans, coz i dnt have any problem shifting....so, please, if any of you have any idea, or had this problem before and solved it..please i need help..thank you,julius'95 nissan altimamanual trans.

When the clutch is released the transmission internals will spin. When you push the clutch down the internals stop. By knowing this simple fact it has been isolated to internal trans just by what you said. I would guess input shaft bearing as the source of the noise. This part will have no effect on shifting untill it either blows apart or begins to seize up. Check your trans fluid level and condition first to be sure its not to low and also be sure it is the correct weight fluid. If this checks out you are looking at a trans rebuild or replacement.

whhere can i chheck the level of the trans fluid....cause when i we took the trans out, we spilled some fluid...and so after we reintall everything, i've added some gear fluid-80W90...but i did not know hhow to check if i've put enough or maybe too much fluid in there....and you mentioned the input shaft bearing, is that the shaft that is connected to the shifter-rod, is there a way on changing that? is there a way to change thhe input shaft gear?

There is a fill plug on the side of the trans toward the raditor. It is a 1/2 inch drive plug. Remove it and see if the fluid is up to the hole. if not add fluid till it starts running out the hole. This is the proper level for the fluid.

The input shaft bering is inside the trans case. It is pressed on to the main shaft of the trans.
