176,000 miles my daily driver.....If the car is cool or cold....(ambient temperatures while sitting) the shifter works like normal with no squeeking, or sticking.....however, if it's hot outside or the car is driven long distances where the trans gets warm, the shifter becomes hard to manipulate....it squeeks like some type of rubber piece has expanded due to the heat and is binding the shifter....

(this can happen if the car is sitting all day in the sun and gets hot, you don't have to drive it)

I'm hoping there is some type of adjustment on the shifter I can make to loosen it up a tad....

Thanks in advance!SO

It is probably a bad shifter bushing at the far bottom end of the shifter. Or a shifter linkage problem in that same area.

I have to agree it's the bushing....

So....Here's how I took care of it...Removed the shifter boot section from the console (pops right off...)

After removing 170,000 miles worth of pet hair and gunk from the inside of that area including the base of the shifter...I worked WD40 into the area....it took a while...

I'm guessing that some of that "gunk" has worked it's way down inside over the years and causing the binding...I spent about 30 minutes spraying and working it in......at that time it was only a "little" better...so I figured I'd have to live with it...

The next day.....it was smooth as new....the WD40 must have worked it's way in there overnight.....I'm not sure if I'm just adding a new "gunk magnet" to the area using the WD40.....I'll have to see what happens...

thanks!SO
