Hey guys, my grandma needs her IM gasket replaced on her 95 altima.I was going to do it untill I began reading its a horror and its the worst thing ever.

The shop said it would cost $250 and im not sure if this is the Upper or lower gasket. But either way I understand Nissan charges 5.2 hours laborand I didnt think it could be as bad as it seems to be.

Can I not remove the nuts and pull back a few inches?Do the coolant lines HAVE to be removed? They dont have any play room at all?

Im still wanting to do this as Id rather get the money than the shop.I have done a couple engine swaps and a head gasket replacement. So im not too much of a noob when it comes to working on cars.I have prettty much all the tools I have heard I need for this job.

all rachets in each size, all swivels in each size and extensions from 3"-6" in each size. Also the rachet wrenches so im hoping I'm ok.My grandpa also has a shop so I know he'll have any tool i need.

Let me know if im just stupid for wanting to do this on my own and saying It will only take a couple hours.

Thanks!

plan to take all day. really. maybe two to do everything right.

if you prepare yourself, and forge thru you'll get it done.

most people will not bother with things like the coolant hose (haeter hose size) on the underside of the plenum, but once you have it off, there is no better time.

do both gaskets, get the tb gasket do, both (was it 3?) egr gaskets, and clean the upper and lowe plenum to spotless.

do the knock sensor, oil pressure sender, and PCV while you are in there.yeah you'll have to remove the starter--great time to get a nissan reman'd one and not hassel with it again.

i did my intake manifold gasket..and it was a pain...but you can take the bolts out and push it back with a wooden stick like what i did...disconnect all your hoses..it took me about a day and a half because i did in my backyard...but if u have the money to spend i recommend u take it to a shop
