Post

Fellow enthusiasts,

After much discussion with Brian Catts of Cattman Performance, Brian has agreed to make a limited run of 3" catbacks for our 95-99 Maximas. In fact, I've offered to help Brian prototype the 3" catback using one of my Maximas.

Brian gets requests for a Cattman 3" catback for the 95-99 Maxima from time to time, but when they trickle in randomly, its difficult to know what the overall demand for the part is. Hence the need for this thread! I know we've "talked" about it before, but let's make it actually happen this time guys!

The Group Deal will be setup for 8-12 orders, but there's no upper limit if demand is strong. In order to begin production, we'll need a MINIMUM of 8 orders and once that is reached, the 3-4 week production process will begin.

The 3" catback will be made to the same high standards as Cattman's 2.5" catback series for the Maxima, featuring mandrel-bent 16ga stainless steel tubing, 3/8" steel plate flanges (nickel-plated), single O2 ports (w/ plugs for 95/96 Maximas/I30s), extra ports available on request, and a single-tip all-stainless steel muffler. Resonators are optional because some of these will go on turbo'd motors, which really don’t need a resonator.

If the customer decides to add a resonator later (or wants the ability to switch back and forth) a bolt-in resonator section is available, a bolt-in resonator section can be purchased now or at a later time and will bolt right up with no modifications, cutting welding, etc.

The production process begins when the 8th order is received, and should take 3-4 weeks to complete. Group deal prices will be $684.99 without a resonator and $749.99 with a resonator. Additional O2 ports for wideband sensors can be ordered for $20/each. Prices do not include shipping. Your cc will not be charged until the catback is done and ready to be shipped to you.

If you'd like to purchase one of these systems, simply give Cattman Performance a call and place a backorder, and then I'll post your name on the list in this thread (or hide it if you prefer). Cattman Performance phone #s are 800.759.9920 (continental US exc AZ), 888.296.5153 (Canada and AZ) and 520.575.8195. They're open 9-5 Mountain Standard Time (11-7 EST/10-CST/PST 8-4), Monday-Friday.

This is a must have mod for turbo'd and supercharged 4th gen Maximas. Either Brian or myself are available to answer any questions via email, PM or the Cattman phone numbers.

Thank you, and let's make this deal work!

James

Would be a good addition for FI applications. Otherwise seems somewhat pointless.

Absolutely right, I only recommend this for forced-air applications, but with a couple of minor exceptions.

Most commonly, the 3" catback will benefit a VQ35DE-to-A32 transplant. There's pretty solid documatation on maxima.org that shows a 3" catback has significant benefits over an identical 2.5" catback, when installed with a normally-aspirated (stock internals) VQ35DE.

In theory, a 3" exhaust would also benefit a normally-aspirated VQ30DE with some sort of major all-motor (high-rev) build. I'm not sure if such a motor exists in a Maxima, but very roughly speaking, if a normally aspirated VQ30DE motor had a rev limiter at 7k or more, and was making 220+whp, I think a 3" catback would outperform a 2.5".

Now that everyone has pretty much gotten their tax return, is there any interest in this?? Or should the idea be abandoned once and for all??

Please let me know.

I've ordered one for my 5.5 gen. maxima.org has a deal going right now to get this build under way. we only need about 4-5 more orders for production to start. Brian agreed that if he can get a total quantity minimum of 8 he can get production underway. Maxima.org has 4 orders in so far.

Many Max owners are having custom 3" systems developed locally. That means the interest and power increases are there and worth the added cost. There are dyno sheets out there that show substantial increases in power over the 2.5" system as well. I've done a bit of research and still have questions but I'm always thoroughly educated by cattman and fellow enthusiasts. Post your questions and concerns and let's get our rides on the road to be the 3.5L V-8 eaters they were built to be.
