Hey guys, I was in a wreck and I need a new trunk so I figured I might as well get a cf one so I don't have to pay to get it painted. I have looked around and found a couple. Which one do you guys reccomend, VIS? Also, do you guys know a place that sells them cheap? Thanks in advance.Josh

i would think vis or seibon..... you want a high quality one so the clearcoat doesnt turn yellow

I don't think you want to go the cheap route when shopping for carbon fiber. I hear chargespeed is pretty decent.

and also you might have to change how the spring helps lift up the trunk.... cuz its gonna fly with such a light one on there

Yeah sorry I meant trunk. It isn't going to break it or anything is it? I didn't think it would affect it that much.Josh

My vote is with Seibon, i have one of their hoods, and have compared it to VIS and other leading c/f manufacturers. It's the best quality by a large margin. Talk to Mike from Revolution Autowerks (www.revautostore.com) and they are one of our sponsers!

when i took off my spoiler to paint my car, the trunk was so light that when i pulled the trunk lever the trunk flew open. imagine now if u have a carbon fiber one. that thing is gonna shoot off the hinges.

its because you have the springs designed for the spoiler, the base model springs dont have as much tension.

Hey guys, I ended up getting the one from Top End Motorsports made by VIS. It was in my price range, so that's pretty much what it came down to. But these guys customer service sucks, I can't get a tracking number or anything out of them. It's pissing me off. Are you talking about the tension rods? I have a set of tension rods for a non spoiler trunk as well. Should I swap them out? I just don't see how the rods will fit on the arms. Because the old arms of the trunk stay don't they?Josh

they should fit, but it will probably make the trunklid fire up super fast because of the weight difference. i noticed a similar effect when i took my spoiler off

in order to keep the deck from flying up and damaging your new deck lid made of carbon fiber, i would suggest doing the following. before removing the decklid for replacement it helps to keep it on when you are about to do what i tell you next. there is a spring mechanism that enables to deck lid to be lifted with relative ease. there are two springs in there, however they dont look like springs. they are long rods with hooks on the end of them, they criscorss each other like an X. when you find them which isnt difficult at all just remove one of them and then install the carbon fiber deck lid. by removing one of them, the deck lid will not fly up as violently.
