I just recently sold my 94 dodge stealth r/t n/a for 5000. Now i'm looking into get either a 90-94 talon tsi or a 95-96 240sx. I would want to do the sr20 swap in the 240 but since i only got around 6000 to spend that would just be enough to get the car. So i would have to save for about 1 year or maybe a little less before i could do the swap. The 1g talons run around mid to high 14's on basically a stock car. What do most 95-96 240's run in stock form. Its a really tough deciscion because i like the looks of the 240 better but the talon just seems like a much better platform to work with performance wise. At least when money is a issue. Or do you think i should just get another 89-93 5.0 mustang and supercharge it or something. Also since i live in cali would the sr20 engine even pass smog, or would i have to swap the engines every other year

All i know....

the Talon TSI will be faster than the 240, but the 240 can outhandle the FWD talon.

Take your pick. Speed or handling. If you want a turbo engine, buy the talon and upgrade the turbo/fmic.

Isnt the talon a worse platform cause it requires so much maintence.

if its a turbo talon its AWD i believe. the 240's aftermarket is huge, just as the talon. but do u wanna buy the talon, have some fun going fast, then have it break all the time? DSM's reliability has NOTHING on a 240. 240 is amazing handler, performance isn't THAT bad, looks sweet, and never goes to the shop. so choose. u have reliability, looks, handling against speed, and, well, nothing else. but if you are gonna do that swap, you'll have more speed in the 240 than a TSI. good luck in your car shopping : )

I wouldn't say "never" goes to the shop, but very rarely.I had to replace me fuel pump last week.

My 1986 toyota 4Runner never and I mean never went to the shop. My dad bought if brand new in 86 i bought it from him and when i sold it last year it was 16 years old, never done any work on it other than maintaince. It probably should have had a new exhaust, but i didn't feel like paying $200 for it when the car was only worth $2700 car. But i bought my nissan and I have no problems, maybe i just have had good luck. I would go with the 240sx because at the end of the day, fast or not, it is how much you like to drive it, and the 240sx is just fun to drive.

oh BTW if you go to a talon tsi forum they are going to tell you to buy that, here they are going to say 240sx. You are really the only one who can choose.

s13drifter thats because toyotas never go in to the shop. And i mean NEVER. I could ride a geo metro from here to canada, but why would i take such a pimp car such as the metro to canada, and the thing would still be kicking.

Yeah, this forum is biased towards 240's (so am i).

How is the reliabilitiy of a talon though? None of my friends own one, so i've never really heard any stories about them. I thought they were relatively good cars?

Hehe, don't get me started on Talons. :) I've had a long history with them (owned two AWD's over the last 4.5 years). I founded SaskDSM, the local club for saskatchewan Talon owners, back in '97 and have been modifying them up until now. I'm switching back to Nissan. :D

Anyways, we had a 'discussion' about this same topic just a little while ago on the board. The good stuff starts around the 2nd page. Take a look:http://saskdsm.computica.net/s...t=202

Yes, you can get a Talon into the 12's for $2000... then it blows up and you have to replace all the parts. End cost: Way too much.

But if you want a car that handles well, looks more original, and one that you know will start every morning buy the 240sx.

For the record: i was initally going to buy a Talon TSi until i heard all the bad things about them which i suspected to be true anyway.

Drewstealth welcome to the board as a former member of 3si.org and owner of 2 3/S had a 94 3000gt sold it to buy a 94 dodge stealth R/T TT sold it for a truck and money and then traded the truck in for my 240 that by far the 240 is the most fun car to drive it is awesome I like it a lot better that the 3000 GT plus it has one thing that I truly love it is RWD so from one former 3/S owner to another go with the 240

My fiance has a non turbo '92 Talon. It's a really, really fun car to drive. It handles great for a FWD...one of those cars that after you spend a few minutes behind the wheel you'd feel comfortable tossing it around a bit. It also has fantastic power delivery and a hell of a lot more get-up than I'd have ever expected from a 135hp N/A engine. The 1-2 shift throws you back in your seat and wheelspin is a very common occurance.

Thus, from having only experienced an N/A Talon, I can only assume that a TSI would be that much more enjoyable.

As far as reliability goes...well...he has a starting problem with this car that he can't figure out. The car doesn't like to crank when it's cold, and othertimes it'll be running fine all day, then he goes to crank it, and it won't start. He's replaced plugs, wires, and had all the starting componets tested.

I think a TSI would be great fun, but it's also great fun to have a car that you know is going to start up for you when you turn the key. ;)

Go to http://www.dsmtalk.com and do some research. They're good people over there...very helpful.
