'95 240SX SE - Intermittent A/C Question

Recently the A/C has been intermittent in the first 10 minutes or so of the car running, I'm driving along and then it is as if the A/C has been turned off.

The A/C will return after a few minutes as normal though and will work consistently thereafter.

Is this a sign of some component about to demise?

is ambient temp a factor in when it works and doesnt work?
