I have 92 5spd 240sx w about 120xxx miles on it.I have two problems and I dont know if they are related or not.

One problem is it is running rich at idle and I am assuming all the time due to my poor gas milage (more on this later). The other problem is my speedo is way off. at 35 miles an hour it was reading 40 at 65mph it was showing 85mph (confermed via handheld GPS) and sometimes when cruising at a steady speed, say 65 it some times will jump back and forth between 65 and 85 usally winding up at 85. It doesnt matter what gear im in, the speed is always off, the faster I go the more its off. I was wondering if this had anything to do with the car running rich off idle, also if I should get it recalibratd, relpaced or something else. And one other thing, I think my gear sensors all apear to be covered in grease/oil, I dont know if this matters or not but I thought I would mention it.

And as far as the running rich goes, It has:

New NGK Iridum plugs (also used NGK-R, same effect)New Borge Warner wires, car, rotornew Bosch O2 sensorNew Wix Fuel filterseafoamed intake + cleaned w carb cleanerLucas gas + upper cylinder treatmentNew ECU temp sensor (it thew a code for this, it went away after I changed it)Timing set at about 20 +/- a littleIdle is set at about 750 +/- a littleFuel pressure is good I think it was 44 at idle and between 44 and 30/35 under load (I cant remeber for sure)

Most of this stuff i changed / did when I bought the car, since I didn't know the last time it had been done. The ECU temp sensor I replaced when I threw the code. it the ecu reads 55 now, wich I beilive is no codes present. I have also wiggle tested the injectors, they seem fine. All the injectors seem to be firing okay (they all click anyway). I dont know where to go from here, and I dont feel like or have money to throw parts at. So anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

D

44 psi at idle is way too high..!! It should be around ~34 psi with the fpr plugged in and working. If u unplug it from the intake manifold, it should go up to ~45 psi..

I think i just found about a half dozen vac leaks. All around the EGR / FPR area. They are those small little hoses, most of them are cracked on the back side. The FPR vac line is barley on. I tried to measure vac on one of the lines and it read 0. this is going to be a major PITA to replace all those little lines that are routed between the firewall and the intake man.

Any tips???? Please!!! This is gunna SUCK (no pun intended)!

Its not as bad as it looks. just do one hose at a time. Remove the BPT valve to make access easier.

I have all of my Vac hoses hooked up. It Idles at about 38PSI now. If you nail the trottle it jumps up to about 44 then drops to about 32, then slowly rises to about 36/38. I included a vid. It is in quick time. Let me know if this looks right.

And any Ideas on the speedo problem?

Your posted readings look about right. I cant veiw your media file since my comp dont like quicktime..lol

It would be best to get a scanner and see if it is registering the same as the speedo needle is. If it isnt you have a bad speedo head. If it is off on the scan tool as well then you have a problem with the pick up wheel in the trans. It could be the wrong one for the car. There are several places that do calibrate them. I dont know if they will list them in the phone book or not. If they dont ask your local highway patrol or state police where a calibration shop is.
