first off im new to the forum but not to nissans I usally have no problems working on them but this has got me stumped

the car is a 1995 240sx automatic base (i know haha itll be changed soon)

one day i was driving and the fuse for my dash and running lihts went out. replaced it and it worked fine for a day then went out... i looked up any wire shorts that might be causing it the passenger marker harness was missing found the wires and they were bare... i took electrical tape and isolated them there are 5 other wires that i assume go to the pump for the washer fluid so i taped all them up. put a new fuse in and it was good for another day then blew out. i put about 5 fuses in and it would blow out right when i would flip the switch

so today i took all the bulbs out and took the dash completely apart and unplugged everything then put a fuse in and it blew right away. i took the switch out and sprayed wire dryer in it.

after puting everything back together and a new fuse i tried it one more time. the fuse didnt blow but STILL no lights.

my headlights, turn signals, brake lights and reverse lights are the only things that work

im lost on this one

oh and once and a while when my lights were working the vent control panel would flicker

any ideas???

ok just found some usefull information..

to see if the switch is bad you get a light tester and take out your switch. you connect the one end to a wire on your positive battery terminal then you get the plug for the switch and poke it with the tester it should either light up or you should hear your light relays kick on if everything is working right when you test it and your switch dosent work then im gonna assume that the switch is bad.

if everything dosent work wen testing your switch might be good but the relays might be bad or theres a short in the wires some where

im going to test this theory either today or tomarrow and see if it works

ok so the plug for the light switch test went kinda crappy today.... ended up with not knowing if my switch is bad and my headlights not working too

heres all my information on what i did and maybe some one can shed some light on this because it seems like alot of people are having this problem and we need to figure it out

when testing the plug with the light tester cable hooked up to the positive battery terminal (going left to right and down with the plug clip facing the right ) theres 8 terminals

Hole 1 lights up Hole 2 dosentHole 3 dosentHole 4 dosentHole 5 lights upHole 6 lights upHole 7 lights upHole 8 lights up

now when i hook up the light cable to the negitive battery terminal hole 2,3,and 4 light up but the rest dont.

i put a 14 gauge wire in hole 1 and tried looping it to 2,3,and 4

when i did that ( i cant remember what hole) it blew the running light fuse but i also dont have headlights now...

im taking a guess it blew out my headlight fuse too i havnt been able to pull them yet to check for the other blown fuse which reminds me IF ANYONE HAS A FUSE DIAGRAM FOR A S14 OBD1 1995 gen CAN I HAVE A PICTURE OF IT?????

I gotta look at the wiring diagram to see what ones are what (prolly shoulda done it before I looped the connection)

oh and the order goes light this

(1) (2)(3) (4) [clip] (5) (6) [side](7) (8)

so if anyone has any light to shed on this subject that would be great

heres a picture from the service manual

what do the numbers mean on the switch terminals in the picture

i just put the order i tested them im my description

ok well i tried finding out more info today again and when i hook up the light testor to the positive battery terminal and poke the markerlight negitive and positive it lights on at both spots

my fuse blew again today too i think theres a loose connection behind the fuse panel so it is doing it again

and now when I use the testor light to check the plug only 2 of the 3 light up when i connect it to the negitive battery terminal.

FUSE PANAL DIAGRAM ANYONE?

oh and when looped the two top holes it did blow my headlight fuse's i replaced them and there working again

is there anything that i should maybe look for in the dash lighting system?

would a loose connection behind the panel do it ? cause the fuse didnt blow untill i moved it a little and then it blew when the switch was turned on

and ive heard about the radio dimmer switch doing it but that couldt be it cause its got the stock Cd player in it... the only thing about that is the digital display dosent work

if anyone has any insight on this that would be great

i love how we are both basically talking to ourselves in our threads lol! well it seems both of our problems are stemming from the radio area? i got a couple cut wires and i think that may be the cause for mine idk...maybe one of ur wires is burnt up and arching every now and then? maybe the one that goes to the display you mentioned? idk
