Hey Techs,
My old starter just gave out in my 95 240sx KA24DE. I got a new one at schucks and noticed that it came with documentation saying there are two starters, 8 and 9 teeth, and that they are interchangeable, so i can install the one they gave me either way. I installed the starter and the car started up smoothly. It cranks faster then the old one and has a cool higher pitch sound to it.
Anyways, the problem i have noticed (So far only when cold) Is that sometime after i start cranking, then on the first or second 'turn-over' the flywheel seems to come to a stop for a split second and then continues cranking. It almost sounds like the starter teeth/flywheel jam into each other. The car always starts up fine in the end though, besides this abrubt jam. The engine has been rebuilt and one of my donor engines was from an s13, so I may or may not be using an s13 flywheel (can't recall, but most likely it is the s14 one)
Question: Do s13's and s14's use the same starter? Could the 8/9 teeth starter cause a problem with the flywheel/starter teeth jamming intermittently (40% of the time so far it seems)? Could this problem be related to the starter not being installed correctly (not sure where one could fubar this up though haha) This probably isnt good for the starter motor in the long term
cheers for any input!Marko
