Just took my 240sx out of storage. Got the oil changed. My mechanic pointed out a rattling noise that it makes for just a few seconds after start-up. He started it several times to try to determine where it was coming from. I am not a mechanic by any means, but he said something about the distributor housing, cam and timing chain. Since I am poor and it is my "winter beater" he said to just drive it and see what happens. Anyone think they might have an idea what it could be?

Is everyone on here a smart ***?? My mechanic is not specifically a Nissan mechanic and wasn't really sure where it was coming from. What he told me was purely a guess. I was looking to see if maybe there was a problem common to the 1995 240sx. Sheesh.

nissan's have notorious problems with oil beeding out of chain tensioers when they sit for a long period of time. also i have REMOVED the upper chain guide on many ka's to elimintane chain noise. to remove the guide all you need too due is remove the valve cover and then remove the 2 10mm bolts and upper guide at the front cover. dong this will not cause any problems to the timng chain system, and may eliminate the noise.

not trying to sound like a a-hole but yeah timing chain(which was already guessed by mechanic who was actually there) might be the best guess...we aren't there to hear it, plus we do it for free.
