I'm in the process of building an S14 race car and a friend and I installed a 4 pole kill switch. Once it was installed we tested it several times and it did its job. But then we noticed the car would not rev. I have all of the gauges disconnected, so could not see if a check engine light is on. The MAF was unhooked, so we hooked it back up, no difference. plugged the vacuum lines, still would not rev.

Is it possible for some reason it affected the ECU and put it in Limp Mode? If so, how do I get to reset? Do I need to drive it around? (Not street legal) Let it sit? Get an OBD II scan tool and reset it? Any ideas?

Also, can you recommend a good scan tool that will work on this car as well as say a 97 Toyota and 2007 Mazda? Do they make such a tool for the Do It Youselfer at a good price?? Thanks.

Thanks.

Try resetting the ECU first.

To reset the ECU, you have two options.

One is to unplug the battery and let the vehicle sit overnight or longer. Then simply plug the battery back in. However, this sometimes does not work.

Your other option is to manually reset the ECU.

The ECU is located in the passenger's side right foot kickpanel. Remove the plastic 10mm head nut along the firewall holding this panel on and pull it out towards the driver's side to disengage the clips. Once removed, the ECU will be exposed. Remove the 3 10mm bolts holding the ECU in place. Once the ECU is free, carefully move the ECU around until you see a piece of tape on the side of the ECU, covering a small flat-head screw. Now, turn the ignition on to ACC (ie A/C, radio, etc). Carefully take a lfat-head screw driver and puncture the tape and turn the screw fully clockwise until it stops. Hold in that position for 2 seconds. Then immediately turn it back fully counter-clockwise until it stops. Once it stops, immediately turn it back clockwise until it stops, and hold it there for 2 seconds. Then turn it back to its original position fully counter-clockwise.

This will correctly reset your ECU.
