I have a 95 240sx that is an auto to manual swap 160k on the KA engine. It runs very well, recently the cel light came for the egr control solenoid. I replaced it and reset the ecu, it was fine for a week. Then the cel light came back on and it was a code 32 egr function. I then went about checking vacuum hoses (specifically the one between the EGR valve and the EGRC-BPT valve, but that was fine.) Every hose I can see or feel without removing the intake runners is fine, the only hose I can’t check is the one that is connected to the top of the egr solenoid, I would have to remove the intake runners to get to that. Before I do all that I wanted to know if maybe it might be something else, after looking around some people say that it might be the EGR valve or the EGRC-BPT valve.

I decided I should check those, so I looked at the EGR valve and the EGRC-BPT valves. I checked the EGRC-BPT valve by connecting a length of hose to it and blowing into it. I think it is ok, because I can hear a crinkling sound as the diaphragm inside moves up and down. I checked the EGR valve, by turning the engine on and pressing up on the bottom of the valve, and then engine stumbles like it should.

Could the problem still be with these valves? Would the engine still stumble if the EGR valve didn’t work? Could the problem be somewhere else I have not checked yet? I have to fix this problem before my inspection expires this month, plus my car seems to be using more gas then in normally does, so any help is greatly appreciated.

somebody correect me if im wrong but I've heard that removing the egr completely makes your gas mileage go down now lets say that the egr tube is clogged this would do pretty much the same thing as not having it altogethernote removing it is a huge PITA so good luck

Can't remove it, like I said I have and inspection next month, so I would not pass without it. It does suck that nissan put most of the tubes either behind the engine, or under the intake runners. If they had shifted that stuff a could inches to the left, it would be so much easier to fix problems like this....

I wouldn't say it's a HUGE PITA, I did it in one night. Fairly simple I'd say.

Check out the FSM, I think you can test the EGR for sticking using a vacuum pump.
