Hello everyone. I'm wondering if any s14 owners can help me out with this one. So my gf's s14 had alot of issues when she bought it and now most of them are taken care of. But this current one is giving me some trouble. The dome light and door ajar light dont come on when you open the driver side door only. They both work when you open the passengers side. So the driverside door switch or wiring is bad. so I test the switch and it is indeed bad. pins 1 and 2 should both ground out through pin 3. pin 1 for the airbag computer grounds out to pin 3 but pin 2 for the lights does not. so ok I order a new switch from nissan get it and it tests the same way! :wtf2: I can put a jumper wire from pin 1 to 2 and a wire in pin 3 and touch them together to simulate the switch being there and all the lights work! So did nissan sell me the wrong part? this switch they sold me grounds pin 2 for the light to the screw that holds the switch down. but the screw goes into a plastic insert in the door frame so how is plastic supposed to ground anything out? :gotme So is there a ground wire that is supposed to go to the screw? So maybe one of you guys with a s14 and a working dome light and door switch could test your switch for me or let me know if there is supposed to be a wire going to the screw? The FSM states that both r/w and g/r wires should ground through the same spot pin 3 black wire.

Did you try installing it the way it arrived without any jumpers? Otherwise, can you jumper it yourself? Sry, I don't have an S14. It seems like a simple fix. Can you look at your passenger side switch? I can't imagine a screw doesn't touch ANYTHING metal. Does it go through the plastic into a threaded nut of some sort?

Yes I installed the switch the way it came from Nissan with no jumpers. The jumper wires were to simulate a switch. I could make this switch work. But if you buy a brand new door switch from nissan it should plug in screw to stock location and work. I shouldnt have to add wires and whatnot. And yes the switch and screw touch nothing metal.

I agree with you about not having to add wires. Is there a passenger switch you can compare it with?

The passenger side switch is a single wire. Its not the same. But maybe it grounds through the screw on that side ill check it out.

Good idea. let me know what happens. I can't believe there isn't someone here who can check theirs.

So the passenger side switch grounds through the screw. So can anyone with a s14 unscrew their driver side door switch and see if it screws into a plastic insert or something else. please sombody I have to know.
