My brother recently got a 1995 240SX SEThe airbag light is flashing. After performing the airbag reset detailed in the FAQ, it switches to flashing a trouble code - 17. Resetting ECU seemed to have no effect. Called the Nissan dealer to try to find out what that code 17 was, and was told it was "just a sensor". Brought it in, and got to pay $81 and wait a few hours for them to tell us it was actually the main module, $900+. This is not an option. Sourced a module from a junkyard, but it seemed to have a different part #and have an orange sticker on top rather than yellow (though we were assured it was from a 95). Hooking it up gave steady airbag light, reset procedure had no effect. Could someone tell me what airbag code 17 is, and any theorys on what the actual problem is?

Update: The original module part# ended in F00, the junkyard one F07

Aww crap! Dude, I have the same problem you just described. Would it be possible if you can send that FAQ over to me? [email protected] Much appreciated.

Have you tried taking your car to another Nissan dealership perhaps?

Yep same probem with 95 240SXSE here also. We have swapped the module with 2 other ones. Still get a flashing light. I can reset ours but will usually start flashing within a day or two. So where and how many sensors?

each unit is calibrated to the specific system in which it was installed you will need to aquire an exact match or the codes will not go away...do me a favor guys if your gonna mess with air bag equipment disconnect BOTH battery cables for more then 3 mins before messing with the air bag system...seen a guy in the dealership nearly get his face ripped off when messing with a live airbag system... he tilted the diagnostic sensor unit( which your having a prob with) and it detonated the bags.....these units store these codes in hard memory ...meaning only a nissan scan tool can erase a code from present or past memory... the most common cause for this code is low battery power supplied to the unit triggering that specific code...suggest you take it to a dealer and ask them to just erase that code..if that is the only code in the system and it is not in present once they erase it it will most likely not come back unless you have a battery go dead on you

Ok I tried the door switch thing and it did make a difference. I pressed the button 5 times, (7 and 10 did nothing) and the light blinked much slower!!! So its not AS annoying as before. When I do my swap Im just gonna pull the bulb out. All these codes, sensors, and stuff sounds like a huge headache and too many opportunities for the dealer to rip me off. I dont think the airbag has ever deployed but it has been in a wreck that messed up the rocker panel. My car is a 1995 5 speed, non SE with 136K miles.
