I have a 95 240sx (manufacture date of early 94)

background info:has 147k on the body/components, has a recently swapped in KA with 40k on it, with a manual conversion at the same time. Has the usual mods, I/H/E/ and it DOES have an underdrive pulley.

The prob is that since the swap, the power steering has been really "laggy" I don't have much to compare it to before the swap, as i bought it with a dying motor and didn't get to drive it much.

now when i say "laggy", i mean if i turn the wheel from a straightline position, its very tight, and suddenly the PS kicks in. it also happens when changing directions. (found that one out while trying to correct some oversteer.... yikes)

it doesn't seem to be RPM dependant, I've tried keeping the gas depressed and turning the wheel, simulating what the normal operating speed of the ps should be, and no help.

I've looked underhood and the Resovior seems to be either bubbling or boiling.... can't really tell. I added some Lucas PS treatment to it, and it helped a bit.

I'm wondering, could this stem from moisture in the lines/pump? or a bad rack? I'm kinda at a stand still on this one, and I'm not one to just go throwing parts at problems till i find the right one.

any help would be appreciated.

it's not bubbling or boiling. It's just circulating. Did you disconnect the power steering lines at all while doing the swap? If so, you might have gotten air in it. Most cars are easy to bleed. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock slowly, a coupole of times and that should remove any air in the lines.

not sure if the lines were disconected, as my friend did most of the swapping and i did most of the electrical stuff...

when i do the lock to lock turns, should i have the resovoir cap off?
