I've just purchased my 240 last Monday. It’s my first manual transmission car, so the 500 mile ride from the dealership home was a tad stalled; so to speak. By time Friday night came, I was feeling a bit confident in my clutch ability and decided to take the car out for a spin. After a friend told me the only way I could burn out was to redline in first and release the clutch, I did it a couplv'e times. Then I moved on to trying to get the car sideways...

Long story short, after 2hrs of smelling what I thought was burning rubber, my clutch wouldn’t disengage. After getting it towed home, the clutch does disengage, but I can’t get into gear while the car is turned on.

Many people are telling me that the problem is that I have a burned clutch, and I need a replacement. After researching the forums for clutch types n such, i've noticed talk about the slave cylinder replacement as well.

Since its Labor Day weekend, I can’t take my car into the shop until Tuesday; it is a daily driver so I need it on the road A.S.A.P.

So I figure instead of waiting for a mechanic to tell me whats wrong, I’d ask the guyz at nico for advice.

I plan on modifying the car to about 300hp and stopping there, so I won’t need a hardcore clutch kit, I know. I saw the sale on the SPEC clutch n flywheel ( zerothread/187018 ). Stage 2+ in mind..

Would this be the only replacement part I need, or will I also need a slave cylinder as well??

Feels good to be on Nico after visiting the site so much. Just hope my 240 holds up to my amateur abuse.

The stage 2+ should be a pretty good choice. If you're just doing a clutch job, I'd do just the clutch job. The flywheel, lightening it can cause drivability problems and not really suggested for someone still in the process of learning how to drive a manual.

What I would suggest though, is to have a buddy press on the clutch pedal while you check movement of the clutch fork. I'm pretty sure from the sound of the smell, that your clutch is toast, but might as well make sure you don't need a clutch slave or master. If it moves, you don't need to replace the other parts, just the clutch.

If the clutch pedal is staying on the floor, or movement back to regular position is sluggish, or very poor - then typically that's sign for the slave cyl to be replaced. For the time being, don't listen to your friends and baby the car until you learn how to drive manual better and know what parts you're ruining :P.

So i went along w/ the ACT clutch special on nico and had the tech's at my school replace my clutch. Its been making some really loud, whining noises. It only happens when the clutch is depressed. Getting into gear is a big problem too. Seems like the car wants to be at the perfect speed to shift down...

After searching nico, i thought it mightve been the throwout bearing, but everyone says that when they hit the clutch, the sound goes away. Also a couplve minutes of warming up the car is another fix. Neither of these work for me.

Im not sure if my throwout bearing was replaced, i'll look into it. But what else could it be thats wrong in my new clutch installation? I can smell the clutch burning very faintly when i pull it to a stop, so im not really driving it at the moment.
