I have a similar problem with my 94-Q45. The car does not move on first gear until about 2 minutes, then it drives and shifts okay afterwards. If i'm in a hurry, I'll have to move the car on 3rd gear.

Have you done any service to your transmission? Is the fluid red (clean) or brown (dirty and old)? I'd recommend doing the 2 minute Transmission Self-Diagnosis outlined on page AT-41 of the FSM and see if it leads you to any bad sensors. In the FSM there's a voltmeter self-check (at the connector) for most every transmission sensor if one should come up suspect. I've also used Lucas Transmission Treatment with great success on a few of my vehicles. Clean fluid, a new filter and a quart of Lucas may bring your transmission back to life.

Check your ATF level very carefully. Also, consider changing the the external ATF filter the next time you exchange the ATF. Auxiliary ATF cooler?
