When going over a bumpy, poorly patched road, or potholes a thumbing noise occurs somewhere around the front passenger side wheel well. The car has 122k and original struts which are not leaking and seem fine. This noise has been the same for over a year. Does anybody have any ideas?

I think mine were original at 11 or 12 years and 160K+ miles. Thought everything was fine until I heard a noise. My noise was from the right front as well... sort of a rattle - kind of like a receiver trailer hitch while you're towing something. Mine weren't leaking and passed the old "bounce test" - but the rear passed that test and were leaking.

You will be absolutely amazed at how much better it feels after you replace your suspension components. I bought Q1 when she was 6 years old with 88K on the odometer and had never experienced a Q with as new suspension. Even worn out Q suspension feels better than most new cars - but as new it is unreal. The difference is very noticeable...

What brand of struts to you recommend? A local shop uses Monroe.

Are there other componets I should consider replacing in addition to the struts?

Only Tokico makes Q struts, blue=stiff, black=stock. Replace the upper control arms, tension rod bushings, sway bar bushings and all rubber components in the strut assembly. Check the tie rods and lower ball joints for play and replace if necessary.

FYI the Tokico Blue is also known as Tokico HP. We say "blue" because they're blue. You can find them on ebay fairly cheap and usually with free shipping. I'm not sure if we have a sponsor that sells them any cheaper.
