I have called all over the place to see if anyone has the expertise to redo the leather on my Q steering wheel.

I can find no one who says they can do it. Everyone wants to do the wrap but that does not address the spokes that surround the airbag, which happen to be the most worn area. I have been told it is impossible to do. I called around Los Angeles to locate a custom shop and still no luck.

I looked into a new one but at over 500 dollars, I am not ready for that. Does anyone have any suggestions other than searching the junk yards?

Considering the age and value of your Q I can understand not wanting to buy a new steering wheel. Have you tried Ebay or called around to different junkyards to see if they have one?

I'd suggest a used one from another 94-96 (see Infiniti Parts For Sale forum) with leather in better shape around the spoke ends than yours. I've glued down those loose leather ends with JB weld and it's held for years. The leather can be shined up with shoe polish and buffed to look close to new. As long as pices of leather are not missing this may be an option for you.

I swapped an excellent condiiton steering wheel from my parts car into my 94 and it's very straightforward. (My first time removing a steering wheel) The FSM has good detail on the location of each bolt. The only tool you probably don't have is a Torx bit but it was only about $6 from Sears.

I also stitched on a good quality leather wrap (3 hours) on the 90Q and it looks and feels great. You're correct that it doesn't cover about 3/4" of the steering wheel spokes but overall it's better than what's underneath.

have you considered going with a different steering wheel from another Infiniti model? As far as I know they may bolt up.. I dont think it will be possible for any shop to duplicate the tiny stitches that the factory does...

I will check them both out and let you know what I found out. Actually, my steering wheel that I bought a while back is not looking that bad as I review the prices. The one on the car now is horrible, so I need to make a change.I did go to both websites, nice work and fast turn around. Thank you for the info.

Goody I have one from a swap out, it is not in horrible shape and the spokes are good. So I thought while it was off I could send it out and have it redone without paying an arm and a leg.

Yes Wes I thought about another model switch but the thing is I already own two Q steering wheels, I would really like to make use of what I already paid for. That may turn out to be impossible.

Someone stitched that leather originally. Someone else equally skilled can do it also.

If your interested there is a guy that claims to be able to re-dye the steering wheel. He also does seats and door panels and anything else leather.

I did a respray on my 93 years ago. Krylon in a ligher tan the orginal wheel. I first cleaned it real good and used 400 then 600 grit paper on hte worn spots. I left it mounted and used card board as a back drop. After the first coat dried, I sanded the bad spots again... then two more coats. It came out fantastic and lasted two more years without garaging.

Thanks, since I have more than one.... I can experiment. The one on now is the worse one so I guess I could just do as you suggested and give it a shot. I mean it cannot look much worse. On the spokes the leather is worn away

If the spray does not work then I will give your guy a shot the price seems worth looking into for sure.

I certainly would agree with you. Just not what I have been led to believe. I would have thought with all the custom shops in Cali, it would have been an easy thing to find one person who thought it was doable.
