3 years ago i bought a 94 q that had the tcs and slip lights on-the owner had taken it to the dealer and they told him it needed a transmission-i bought figuring i'd get a transmission out of a junk yard and with some help from you guys found the secondary throttle position sensor to be the culpret of the dash lights(replaced it without adjusting it the dash lights have been out ever sincse unless i turs the system off). dont know if this has anything to do with my current problem but thought i'd throw it out there just in case.I've been feeling a hesitation for a long time now (@2 years) i figured it was the transmission going and i just ride it out for as long as i could. From a dead stop it will spin the tires after it shifts into 2nd is when i feel the lag/hesitation same with 3rd 4th seems o.k. it gets slightly worse when it warms up. Last month I took it to the same (infiniti) dealer that diagnosed the transmission being bad and they said it (the transmission) was fine-no codes.I had them do a power balance test and all the injectors were fine, they did say it was running rich. The secondary throttle position sensor has a range of adjustment to it that i didnt adjust-just stuck it on there and it worked-could this have anything to do with it?I've since changed the plugs, and the fuel filter.Cleaned the MAF, the plenum and every electrical connector i could find.and it still hesitates( i'm not finding this to be a surprise-i know theres a lot more i need to do i'm just not sure what that is)I did every archival and recent search i could think of prior to posting this.Thank-you for any help, andy

Andy

shoulda had me drive the car when I was out there, i probably coulda told you what it was...

Anyway, it sounds to me as if the hesitation happens DURING the shifting of the trans???? When exactly does this happen and how does it relate to the trans. If i understand correctly, it takes off great (spinning tires) and through the RPM but hesitates when it shifts?

Wes,Thanks for replying-I hope you guys made it back o.k.The "hesitation" is during acceleration. It'll shift nice and smooth.1st is great ;it shifts into 2nd, you give it fuel and it accelerates slowly 3rd's the same way-its not so slow that i'm holding up any traffic and if i stomp on it it responds quicker. The other thing was that before i cleaned the maf (and i can still slightly feel this sometimes)after it warmed up and when climbing a big hill the car would chug(the whole car would shudder) and if I continued to accelerate after cresting the hill the shudder would continue until i either let off the gas or if i rode it out long enough it would just smooth out.Any ideas? andy

Hi no expert but given the description with the sluggish shifts and shuttering under a load, you could posssibly be experiencing the early stages of torque convertor failure. I had a QX4 do the same thing and a mechanical flush at the dealer for about $80 gave me breathing room for another 18 mths.

Again just a guess, I hope a bad one for your sake. Good luck
