In short, I think what it says is the TCU and the transmission has to match.

He speaks the truth...... The shift points would be off, since the gear ratios are different.......

Why are you wanting to use the 94TCU?

It does, but is for the second series of this transmission which was first available in 1994. You need a 1993 TCU that matches your car (TC or not, CA or Fed, Active or not). Or bite the bullet and get the JWT ECU TCU set-up, which unleashes the well maintained Q45.

edit: Heath is probably correct. ECU is subject to the above. TCU is probably not. There were a lot of combinations/revisions on the pre 1994 cars.

I'm not sure that the TCU is different between CA/FED/TC/A. I think it's only the ECU that changes. To my knowledge there are two 1993 TCUs that will work. They both come only from the 1993 model year and have part numbers of 31036-64U20 and 31036-64U75. I think the 64U75 is the remanned unit that would have been installed with transmission replacements in the late 1990s and 60U20 is the factory one.

It's probably a good idea to have the 93 ECU with your TCU - some members have reported a problems at redline due to the TCU hitting the rev limiter. I've used both combinations, and it really seems a little smoother on the 1->2 shift but I can't tell a huge difference.

I happen to have an extra set (ECU and TCU) on my desk... email me back channel at [email protected] if you're interested. They're from a standard (no Active, no HICAS, no TCS) federal Q.
