The numbers do not match between the remotes and the box. The thing is, they should not match as one is a transmitter and the other is a receiver and they are two separate devices even though they operate together as a system. You can look up the FCC ID number on the FCC's website here: http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid/
When you search the FCC ID and click the document icon under "View Form", it gives a brief description of what it is.
Here's where the strangeness starts
The FCC ID on the remote lock unit inside the car is:
A269ZUA072
Searching this reveals that it was made by Alpine Electronics as an OEM unit, approved in 1991 and operating at 315.0 MHz. Going further and looking at the forum under the Equipment class section, the equipment class is "CYY - Communications Receiver used w/Pt 15 Transmitter" and the description is "Automotive Security System Receiver". This is all fine and dandy, and as you notice it makes no mention of the remote transmitter.
This is where things go downhill....
The FCC ID on both remotes is
A269ZJA073
Searching this number brings up no results found. I noticed that the only characters different in the ID were the 3 at the end and the J in the middle. I decided to replace the J with a U (in case part of it got worn off or I was reading it wrong) and was thus searching for FCC ID
A269ZUA073
You may notice this is one number higher than the FCC ID on the remote receiver unit in the car. Searching this brings up an item made by Alpine Electronics as an OEM unit, approved in 1991 approximately 2 weeks after the remote receiver, that also operates at 315.0 MHz. Looking in the form under Equipment Class, it is "DSC - Part 15 Security/Remote Control Transmitter" with a description of "Automotive Security System Transmitter". Now this looks a lot like the remote transmitter that would go with the receiver mentioned above, no?
What I am thinking may have happened is that somewhere in the manufacturing process something was mis-read and when the remote controls were molded, what should have been a "U" in the FCC ID got changed to a J. Both my remotes have the J in the FCC ID and neither show signs of it being a U with part of it worn off. I am also certain that my eyes are working properly and I am not hallucinating. (This time
Now, if anyone is still reading this, I would like you to look at something for me. Does anyone else have an Infiniti keyless remote with the FCC ID A269ZJA073? If so, does it work?
