Well just like the title says I went out to get dinner the other night and when I came out to leave the car will start but I get no brake lights and cannot get the car out of park.

I did some searching on here and saw that most suggested with this type of problem that it might be the stop lamp switch above the brake pedal. I got one from autozone last night and had a heck of a time getting the old out and the new in and it didn't change anything.

I still get no click at the shifter to indicate that it is unlocking it and no brake lights. I have also checked the brake light 10 amp fuse under the hood and it isn't that. I am at a loss right now and need some help. The car is currently sitting in the Chipotle parking lot but I don't know how much longer they are going to put up with it. :frown:

If you guys have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Also a friend of mine suggested there might be a fuse for the stop lamp switch on the interior fuse block but I am not at the car right now to check.

The problem is usually a short in one of the bulbs in the socket assemblies in the trunk. It takes out a fuse in the fuse block under the steering wheel area. I would check those assemblies first, replace the bulbs with OEM or Sylvania LL bulbs, and then replace the blown fuse.

If you need to move the car and have someone to follow you (since you won't have brake lights) you can get the car out of park by using the shift lock override switch next to the shifter. Those steps are shown on page 4-10 of your owner's manual. If you don't have it, you can review the manual for a 1996 Q here. http://www.infiniti-techinfo.com/refgh0 ... ti-Q45.pdf

Good luck!

Yep you are correct it was the tail light assebly that was blowing the fuse (passenger side). Although it looks like the brake light bulb actually melted the bottom of it's assembly and so it needs to be replaced. I have been looking in the manual for a 94 Q but I am not finding the part number.

For the bulb? The rear uses an 1157. Sylvania's web site has a great look-up feature. http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProduct ... ementGuide

Now that is unintended consequence defined...I've never

I had an I30 last week that had the same concern. It had no brake light signal but in addition to that the solenoid inside of the shifter was dying, that was an expensive day for someone.

I am very curious about this issue. Heath is it a the ground for the assembly or bad bulbs that is the "common issue"
The thing I find interesting is there is a special sensor unit back there that controls the bulb...shouldn't it know something is wrong? lol stupid cars.
