Get straight to the issue... my 94 Q45t with 240K in excellent shape finally had a leaking PS hose. These things go.

So I ordered from Scottsdale - I had to get a group of hoses, which I am OK with.
BUT they got back to me saying they could not find my hose in stock ANYWHERE

I would have to go to a truck hydraulic shop for custom hoses. But for this car I want Infiniti hoses... it is a keeper. And I want other OEM parts too. I fear of other parts being permanently discontinued, too, but that is a bigger problem. Right now I need hoses.

Maybe there is another part number I can look for?
Or maybe I can source it from Japan?
Or any other ideas?
Junk yard parts are old, too.

The part I ordered is: 49720-67U00 HOSE & TUBE ASSY-POW (IOS-SOP)

It is a bundle of hoses. The part I need right now is shown in the attached diagram as 49722MA towards the lower right hand corner.

I tried to order that hose one time and I got something different that I can't use..

Send me a PM and turn on your PMs and as I might know a place where you can get one.. I've had some impossible to get parts found in the past.. Though I do know several PS hoses are gone forever..

On second thought, just search the internet for the part number. I found several hits..

Also, I like this place's diagrams..

Certainly lots of diagrams... figuring out which one it my car is difficult, but the hoses I need at least look common in most of the diagrams.

I feel like a dummy for not just plugging the part number into Google.
NissanPartsZone.com came up - $7 less than Scottsdale, so about the same price.
I'll see how this goes.

Thanks

So nissanpartszone.com voided my order today. They said they can only sell Nissan parts, and not Infiniti parts. Since I doubt there is an exact equivalent US Nissan part for a power steering hose in a HICAS '94 Q45, I am sure they would not have one hidden in a stock room.

So I am back to no hoses. And that part number does not seem to show up elsewhere on google in the US. I will try google.jp, I suppose, but will get someone to help me with the language. Any other ideas are still welcome. Sad to think that this problem could happen to any of us for any part for these cars.

Sadly, I dont think you are going to be able to find the part you need anywhere.Infiniti does not have the part,so no dealer will be able to "order" one from them, and the chance of any dealer having one on their shelf, in some old dusty box is nil because as you can see from your experience, the original part lasted 18 years......dealers do not stock {and therefor pay for} parts that are not quick turnover inventory for them....just doesnt make financial sense to do so.

There are plenty of important{brand new OEM} parts for these old cars becoming unavailable on a daily basis now as the stored supply dwindles down

best bet is to have a hydraulics shop build you one using the old fittings.

I agree with Qship. I think we need to find a good hydraulic repair shop for PS hoses. Some can be obtained from salvage yards (for the solid hoses) with others being repaired hoses..

I tried to order a 49722 last year and got a 49720 -- which didn't do any good..

The rubber hoses are a breeze for a hydraulic shop to duplicate- some even do it while you wait. The real b**** is when the metal pre formed ones start to corrode and need duplicating.

Are they thicker than a slave cylinder/brake line? If not then it should not be too hard...

All discontinued parts are still available in JAPAN. Order from japan directly. Not EXACTLY cost effective but possible. you will probably find your part on this. Below is the part you need i think. Not cheap with the shipping but if you hit them during promotional periods or hagle them on parts and get free shipping

49722MA vvvv

listed part number and actual availability are sometimes not the same thing! I would be shocked if a part unavailable in the USA is actually physically in stock anywhere in Japan-especially since they tend to junk their cars by 60,000 miles due to strict inspection requirements.

Miles? Kilometers. Just an option. The Q45 is a demostic car in japan is it not? Follow through with it. Last year i got my uncut key from them that haven't been available over here in how long?

Thanks for all the replies, in particular to pointers to parts in Japan.
I took me a while to follow up as I did not get the hose out of the car very quickly.

Basic conclusions:
A) can't buy the part in the US.
B) Nice to know you can still buy OEM hose in Japan, if you are patient and pay more.
C) The $120 hose built locally was the way to go.
D) I wish my arms were thinner so I could reach the bloody hose.

The first hose shop up on the peninsula near where I work I went to told me they couldn't rebuild my hose, and did not think any one else. I went to the local Santa Cruz hose shop, and they told me it would be a hack because they'd have to braise adapters onto my existing ends, and lose some of the length of the rubber. They were done the next morning. Before and after pictures are below, they did a very nice job :) .

The old hose failed with what looks like a 3/4 inch slice in it along a spiral seam. It is hard to see in the picture, but it was huge, enough to generate the billowing clouds by pouring ATF onto the exhaust.

Thanks to my son sacrificing his slightly less thick arms, we were able to get the new hose is mostly installed. I expect to finish it up tomorrow.

Good news and thank you for letting us know how it turned out.

Can you share the name of the hose shop in case some of us need to get our PS hoses refurbished?

I could just scream. Again.

Just as I was jacking down the car I noticed a ground strap hanging loose near the rr passenger door... I reconnected it to the exhaust system, and then noticed something on the ground.... a copper O ring the size of the large PS hose I just replaced.

When I took it apart, I was careful to trap the possibly dropping o-ring. I got only one. I couldn't actually see much of the spot where the hose connected in - it looked like there was a copper washer there. But I was never sure. I did also change the transmission fluid, but that copper o-ring is intact (unless there were two? just looking for any possible source for the o-ring other than the PS hose of pain.)

Assuming that this is from the PS hose, here are my choices:

A) pay the local garage to install the o-ring - assuming they have people with arms that can fit in there. (the garage owner builds and races dwarf cars! http://www.santacruzautomotiverepair.co ... dway_c.jpg )

B) Go buy a ratcheting 15/16 combination wrench and do it again before I pump fluid through the hoses, etc.

C) drive it, hope for the best, and if it leaks, go do A) or B)

I am figuring at least 3 hours of pain to install this knowing what I already know, and buying a better tool to help do it. The most impossible part is the initial threading of the "hose bolt". With a 5degree ratcheting 15/16ths box wrench ($28) the ridiculously slow part will be faster. This job took way too long the first time, and mentally I'm not ready to repeat the pain.

Any recommendations?

Check out the FAST diagram you posted... there's a flat copper washer on either side of each fitting. The crush washer on your transmission pan drain bolt should look more like your oil pan drain washer - so a crush washer - not like the one on your p/s hose.
