Hello I would like some help pinpointing the part that is causing my alignment issues.

When I make a sharp left or right turn then drive straight, the steering wheel is not in TDC position. I must counter-turn to fix it. (TDC=Top Dead Center)

When steering is TDC, letting go of the wheel does not make the vehicle pull left or right, vehicle drives straight and steady and smooth and does not angle due to rear-wheel-steering. Car drives great when the wheel is TDC.

Steering rack housing is moving due to worn out oil soaked rack bushings.

Get rubber form joe or plyurethane (Z32) from SPL.

And you will need a realignment, but I would recommend a different shop. Even the most incompetent should have caught the rack moving when the wheels were turned.

unfortunatly in these economic times, even if the shop spots worn rack bushings,etc.....they sometimes keep their mouth shut so they can get paid TODAY for an alignment.....instead of informing customer that parts are needed before they can perform the alignment{ and 99% of the time, even the DEALER wont have the parts in stock} so that means no money today if they are forthcoming with you. Sad, but true.

Perhaps, but doing work that will have to be redone is not ethical. My shop informed me.

That's a new one on me. Suspension issues are best solved by getting the car on a lift and looking for worn parts and slop by trying to move the wheels. Your issue sounds severe enough that a good suspension tech. should be able to pinpoint it quickly.

If you're running on original 15 year old suspension components, the best (although most costly) approach is to replace everything rubber, as well as the shocks and their bushings, etc. Expensive, but it'll get you a ride and handling like you never experienced, having purchased the car with 80K on the odometer.
