Not sure what you mean by "tie rod bushing". Maybe you've heard that the tension rod bushing is leaking and the sway bar bushing is split? Or is the steering rack leaking?Check with our sponsors for parts, they'll save you a lot. If you go to a shop, make your way to Jerry Tucker down there is SD.

Thank you for your response.

I have 94 Q45a - active suspension, 87100 miles.

Dealer's inspection resulted in:1. Both valve cover gaskets leak $956.952. Right Front Tie Rod Bushing leaking $306.953. Both Front Tension Rods split $499.974. Both Front Upper Links (worn) $487.75

After that I went to another shop, lifted the car and inspected it.We found insignificant valve cover gaskets leak, both steering Dust Boot broken, both front tension rod bushings broken, nothing wrong with upper links, or bushings.

I looked up my Service Manual trying to determine the parts I need and have it repaired in "economy" shop.

Please let me know about your bushings and boots, because that's all I really need.

Greg

You can replace the tension rods as a whole and spend more on the part, or you can buy just the bushings, which cost less, but which require more labor to press them into the rods. Your choice, call up our sponsors for a quote. It will be cheaper than your local shops, just tell them you found them on NICO when you call.Hard to know if upper links are out without getting a camber number. If the camber's out or if they're squeaking, they're bad. They don't loosen up, they just yield and take a set.Assume they meant rack boots when they said tie rod bushings, maybe you can call them up for a confirmation. Our sponsors either carry or can order just about anything you need.

I have seen a lateral deflection test for the front upper links somewhere, FSM? My experience has been replacing them about every 25K, but I like a tight suspension to reduce tire wear, increase handling precision.

Cal:

I the boots I have are new in the bags from Joe. I bought them in to put on but had the car in the shop for another issue and just had them replace the boots. So I am left with extras. The bushings are new in the bag. I bought an extra set in case they got messed up in the press. No problems so I have an extra new set -- I also have rods that you can have so you can have the new ones pressed in and change out your old rods at the same time. The rods are easy to change but you will need a breaker bar or long handles wrench to get them loose. I sprayed liquid wrench on mine and used a wrench with a 2' handle -- they came off without much force. Took about 45 mins to do both sides, including taking the wheels off and on.

I only paid $25 bucks for the press job at a machine shop -- took them minutes. I will take 1/2 of the price I paid from Joe -- can't get them cheaper than that. Drop me an e-mail if you are interested.
