I got a flat and when I took the wheel off, one of the studs broke.

How do you fix that on a '94 Q45? I didn't see anything in the service manual.

Are the studs pressed in, screwed in or welded?

Where do I get a replacement stud?

Thanks in advance,John

Browsing the service manual and parts diagrams it looks like its just pressed in.. you may have to seperate the hub from the wheel bearing, doesnt look too complicated.. Id say its an afternoon DIY

The part number for the stud is

43222-70T00

Simple fix.

1) Put a crappy lug nut on it, thread it to JUST where the lug is above the threads (about 5 turns).

2) Nail it square with a good sized sledge (regular hammer doesn't have the drive to do it in one whack).

3) Rotate the hub so the loosened lug will come out the notch in the dust shield.

4) Place new stud in frezer for several hours.

5) Place new stud in the hole. Add a couple washers (preferably beefy ones) or some open nuts that are slightly larger than the stud).

6) Using an open lugnut, tighten the whole mess down. Use a breaker bar to brace the hub against the ground with the other 4 studs (a 4-way lug wrench works GREAT for this).

7) Torque down until new stud is flush and seated on the backside of hub. It may squeal and squeak going in, don't panic.

8) Replace wheel and get rollin'.

MAGCQUE here, sorry for the temporary switch is user names. Just back from Afghanistan and getting back online. After a year of track driving -- and replacing rear pads every 125 miles, give or take 100 miles, I broke a stud and decided I needed to replace all of them. How hard could it be? It was very hard. WD40, sledge hammer, everything I could throw at it. What helped the most when installing was a cheap device that strattles the hole and PULLS the stud into place. These are cheap and available at most auto supply shops.

Thanks for the welcome back. I'm trying to get MAGCQUE working again as a login name. It stopped a year or so back. Gee, my old story? Maybe I can obtain a copy of my old posts and reinvent my thread. Current status on the MAGCQUE is the the new engine and rear end are being installed this week. I reworked the transmission before I was aware of the level 10 specs so it is going back as a rebuild to OEM specs. I missed a track event that was at Watkins Glen over the 4th, and will be back in Afghanistan for two weeks in August -- so will miss an event at the Virginia International Raceway (VIR).

I may have to wait until until October before I get the Q back on the track. Meanwhile I still need to find a solution for the rear brakes.

Well, let's get this thread back to talking about studs!
