94'Q45 Wont start........ randomly

94' q45 with 116k mi.Once in a great while the car wont start, I turn the key and nothing,I turn the key back to the off position , crank it again and it starts.

One time I had to do the above mention a couple of times before it started.

Its done this twice now and Im starting to worry.

I checked the battery and its got plenty of juice.I also got a new fuel pump.

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

If it's not cranking then your starter might be going bad. This is usually because of an open circuit within the stiff copper wire inside the starter (forget what it's called)... your backing the key and trying again is sometimes enough to jar it. You can check the voltage on starter to see if it's getting juice when you turn the key, there is also an old school method... have someone tap the starter with a metal object such as a lug tool while turning the key, the shock waves are usually enough to cause an arc across the short and the starter should jump to life.

I would agree with that, sounds like your starter. Last year had similar problem and it turned out to be my starter.

could also be a starter relay or a bad ignition switch.

How can you test to see if its the starter relay or ignition switch. My starter seems to be acting up again. Just want to be sure it is the starter again since it was changed last year. When i turn the key just makes a clickin sound. Had battery and alternator checked. How difficult is it to change starter on 96q45.

My 94 Q45a has the identical characteristic and has since something in the BCM system went haywire. If I PAUSE even 0.5 sec between ON and CRANK--it won't crank. If I go without stopping all the way to CRANK its 100% reliable. When every now and then the BCM (locks and window consol switchs and seat heaters and steering positioner)works, you can stop at 'ON', and crank when ever you want. I THINK is is the relay associated with the alarm/antitheft ignition lock-out.
