Download and read the FSM.

Suggest you consider doing the entire under plenum job and be done for another 100K.

Guess it all depends on what the car is worth to you.

Whichever part of the plenum you remove, get a new gasket or gaskets for those parts. If you are replacing valve cover gaskets and spark plugs, then get a new upper plenum gasket and valve cover gaskets and install. As long as you clean off the mating surfaces sufficiently, then there should be no need for any silcone gasket maker (rtv).

Exactly why one always reads the FSM for accurate information!

drivers' side is a bit easier to me, since the firewall is so tite to the pass side head (difficult to clean out the half moons). you do not have to remove upper plenum (tb must be removed, though). get an inch-pound torque wrench so that you can properly apply the 85 inch-lb. i recommend to torque in 3 steps: 60, 75, 85 using the sequence in the fsm. yes, judicious use of permatex grey is recommended.

I use Nissan red RTV where specified in the FSM. Read it, then look at the threads.

I should add that I prefer replcing the metal capped rubber VCreatiners between the nuts and the VC. Mine are deformed and hard. New, they are quite supple and must contribute to proper torquing of the head bolts.
