How'd you "tow" it? You can't tow the Q45 - the transmission's planetary gears get no lubrication if it isn't running.Bugzturbo wrote:I have a `94 Q45t that has an odd transmission problem. I actually bought the car to use the engine in a 240 swap, but wanted to drive it for a bit first. Problem is, after towing it home, the transmission seems to be stuck in gear (internally).
On a tow dolly with the trans in neutral. Only went about 20 miles. Didn't think there would be an issue, I always tow RWD cars that way.96Qowner wrote:

So the trans is toast then? I could see if it burned something up, but why does it still work fine, just stays stuck in forward gear? The car still drives perfectly fine in forward gears. And as for the "know better" comment, that's all fine and dandy, but I'm not a commercial towing company. I just so happen to own a tow dolly for bringing home my projects. I guess I should hold the company that made the dolly responsible then since they didn't provide this "list"??Q45tech wrote:JATCO RWD AT will fail in 3-5 miles of slow speed rear wheel turning towing in neutral.....................worse in cold weather 2 miles may be too far.
We love it, always nice to get an extra $3,000 in revenue, usually happens when owners let fuel pump fail and then tow to shop.
Most Professional KNOW BETTER and have a danger list as they can be held responsible for improper tow proceedures.
Only drove it around my buddies lot and down the street, but in forward gears it seemed fine, but I just called my buddy (it's at his place right now) and told him to take it for a spin and he says it does feel like it's stuck in a higher gear and couldn't get it to shift in the limited area he had to work with. So I would say it is in 3rd gear failsafe.Q45tech wrote: Does it shift or is it locked in 3rd gear FAIL SAFE?..........a pan drop tells all.
Yup, that's right down the road about 5 minutes.Haitian_King wrote:Norristown eh? Not too far from me I think. I'm over on Germantown by Lafayette Hill, Plymouth-Meeting, and Flourtown.
Here. Try the On-Board Diagnostic for the Automatic Transmission. Maybe it's something electrical?Bugzturbo wrote:

Bug
Thanks, I'm going to try that this weekend if I can get over there. As for page 62, it does have that symptom, but those "check" require quite a bit of specialty equipment that I don't have access to. I'll try the electronic check though.Haitian_King wrote:

That's the link to the FSM for your year. Check the AT section and pages 41-43. They give instructions on the procedure.
Page 62 also looks like it fits your problem. "Vehicle does not creep backwards when selecting R position."
Check it out.
Towed it myself with a wheel dolly. Only person I can complain to is myself, and he doesn't respond well to complaintsAlabamaDan wrote:Did you tow it or did you have it towed by a company? You know a company with deep pockets that you can complain to ?
