Hey guys I have a 92 Q45 and we just installed a transmission in it. The trans engages all gears forward and revs, but slips through all of them like its not fully engaged.

?

I have no experience with this, but I wonder if it's a torque convertor issue? Do you know for sure that it was working correctly before you installed it? How long did it sit unused?

Check the fluid level first. If it's full, did you use the correct fluid (Nissan transmission fluid or Dexron-II & above?) Are the transmission lines leaking? Did you get the filter gasket on correctly so there is no air getting sucked in? Are all of the electrical connections connected and tight? Is it slipping under heavy throttle or part-throttle? Is it a rebuilt unit or a junkyard trans?

That's my interrogation for now...

Fluid level is correct.
Fluid type Dex IV
No leaks
We didnt pull the trans pan and replace any filters
Trans was suppose to be low mileage but sat for some time before we got to it.
All electrical connections have been checked.
Its slipping under part throttle and full throttle.
It really feels like the torque converter is not solidly bolted down to the fly wheel. Im positive its bolted down, but That is the effect we are feeling here. There must be enough line pressure cause it engages the planetary gears and stays in gear and will shift to second and third for sure, but like there isnt enough pressure to hold the clutch packs together.

My guess's are that there is sludge that we need to get the pan off for and see whats going on, or the torque converter is toast. I can rebuild a FWD chrysler transmission, but I have no idea whats going on in this trans unit So Im as lost as anyone else. That being said I could be way off on the problem.

We also noticed that the trans does not engage at all when it is cold.
It will once its warmed up.

Sounds like you installed a old tired worn out transmission.

I agree. Take the pan off and replace the filter (screen.) It may have been stored empty and the filter gasket dried out and cracked. You'll have to get a gauge and actually measure the line pressure at idle and at stall. There are a couple TSB's regarding slipping, TSB# 258A, and TSB# 87-48. Check 'em out and get back to us.
