Need help:

My 94 Q45 (175K miles) has two problems which the dealer (Infiniti of Gwinnet, ATL, GA) has said said is beyond him. The TCS and Skid warning lights are on and I have confirmed they do not work. The dealer says the code indicates the throttle position sensor isn't working. The part itself is fine, but there is no voltage to it. The Infiniti DCM (work flow manual) says the next step is to replace the wiring harness ($4,000), and if that doesn't work, go to step two... Years ago, I had a 94 Q45T that had a similar problem which was fixed without all that drama, but I can't remember how. Does anyone have an idea?

Separately, it also needs a body control module, which is no longer available new. Does anyone know of a source?

This car has been a sweetheart and still runs like a scalded dog. Just redid upholstry and rebuild the transmission, so hate to see it fade away now.

Thanks!

TCS and SLIP lights together sounds like the classic symptom of the blue relays under the battery tray.
replace them both,
use genuine Nissan (25230-89981). No, they won't last forever, but they should go about 6 years for ya.

You should have gone to infiniti of Rosewell, or any other dealership, they would have pin pointed exactally what the problem is, Infiniti of Gwinnett sucks, they are way over priced than other dealerships and their mechanics are your average lube monkey's that can manage to change the parts out but don't care about the quality of their work, their diagnostics suck. where did you get your upholstery work done if I may ask

Did you Atlanta guys give up on going to T3 Automotive? Byron who worked at the South Cobb street location knows the G50 series in and out,and cheaper labor than the dealer.

I once asked T3 before my VCG job #1 if they could do it and the said "we don't do that anymore", I asked about a differential fluid change....same answer...and again when I asked about an induction service....and it kept going on like that to the point where I asked "what can you do for the Q45" and "Hold on a minute sir".....and hung up...

those Chimps don't know jack S@#% about the Q, they make me so mad when they charge 150 bucks an hour for S@#% labor, that's like 20 bucks less than a Ferrari or a lambo dealership

Yeah... I'd certainly try the relays first. There should be an easy way to test them.

There is a '95 in the pull-a-part here in Columbia. I have no idea if the part number is the same, or if the BCM that's in it was working, and I have no way of testing it. If you can get a part number from your faulty one, and let me know where it's located I could check it. I should make it back there before they scrap it, and I could ship it to you. A bit of a crapshoot, but probably a cheap way to try to fix it.

In spite of 94Q45Beast's experience, I'd also look in to T3 and see if you can figure out if Byron is working there anymore. Some of their front end people have had an anti-NICO attitude in the past. The last one I asked about a transmission flush and filter change asked me if I was "one of those NICO-nuts" and tried to explain how it wasn't necessary. I just told him what I wanted to do and it got done. They'll take your $$$ if you make them :)

Thanks! The part number is #28491 67U03. There is a U01 that was fitted to the same series cars, but the U03 is an updated version that contained a fix for this problem. Either should work. The BCM sits under the dash on the passenger's side. Getting it would require removal of the glovebox or some trim pieces. There are some units on eBay for $100 or so. Please don't go to lots of trouble.

I did talk to Byron, and several others at both T3 locations. Byron said his memory on that series is fading, but did mention the relays. The Decatur shop, which is closest is in the process of moving, so I'll have to wait a few weeks to get the car to them.

Worth a shot. The ones in there only lasted 21 years...so what the heck. Thanks for the info (especially the location and color).

Agree, but in this case, the dealer didn't charge for the diagnosis, and the shop foreman referred me to T3. He gave me a complete diagnostic printout, test values, etc, as well as diagrams. I don't normally go to the dealer, but fair is fair. In this case, they were honest and gave me some leads.

Spoke to Byron who recommended testing the relays )as others have posted. They did tell me that T3 has gotten rid of their old Q45 parts cars and are moving away from that specialty as the numbers of survivor cars dwindle.

I had the upholstery work done at Freestyle, Inc., in Stone Mountain, GA. He's a older gentleman who also owns a Penske truck rental agency on the same property. Definitely a family affair. He subcontracts for many of the area dealers either doing repairs for new vehicles damaged somehow, or restorations. In my case, the exact leather is no longer available. Since everything but a few panels on the driver and passenger seats were still good, he did panel replacements making as close a match as he could. The results were phenomenal, but not cheap. Still less than an entire interior, and I'm no longer embarrassed to have people in the car.

I'll definitely hit em up some time after I fix my Q, I want to re wrap my steering wheel again to a thicker, modern design that give a better grip at 9 and 3 without sacrificing the feel. haha I've temporarily wrapped a Wilson leather replacement grip at 9 and 3.
