Good day all,
I just picked up a 94 Q45 that I'm going to pull the engine out of to go into my 86 300ZX. it has 172,000 km (107,000 miles)

The car does have an issue or two which i want to sort out before i start pulling anything.. i figure it'll be easier now then later when its being installed.

First off the TCS and SLIP lights are showing on the dash, as this is not related to the motor swap, can someone please confirm that just unplugging the TCS module in the trunk actually disables it? as shown in this thread:

removing-abs-etc-etc-t179989.html?hilit=disabling%20TCS
Does this affect anything to do with the ECU and throttle control/power?

it also has a check engine light on which the previous owner mentioned was a MAF error, now i haven't had a chance to check the codes yet, but it was a real pig on gas on the trip home, using about 28 liters to go about 120 km (about 23l/100 or 10 mpg) and was quite sluggish and rough idling.
Are any of the after market MAF worth considering? how about junk yard pulls/used? or if i diagnose that it is the MAF should i just man up and buy a new one?

Thanks,
Kevin

Well i disabled the TCS last night and ran codes off the ECU.
It came up with :
34: Knock sensor circuit
46: Secondary throttle position sensor circuit
51: injector circuit

So the knock sensors I'll probably just replace, they are $55.00 each from rock auto.
The secondary throttle I'm going to pull out anyway as it only has to do with the TCS, so no biggie there.
And the injectors, i think I'm just going to pull them all and have then cleaned, tested and balanced, then i know I'm going to be good.

It already seems to rev better, but i was not able to get a run down the road, as we got 6" of snow as i was working on it, so not really conducive to doing a test run.

For the knock sensors they are the same as RB25/26 so you might be able to find them cheaper.

The TPS.... you got it sorted so run with that.

The Injectors, I would check the plugs and wiring first. Make sure everything is ok and not grounds or shorts anywhere. A cracked connector might cause an issue also. Just a thought.

Good thoughts DRFTBLD I'll look into that first.. Thanks for the suggestion.

As for the injectors, i might still have the cleaned anyway, as i found a shop next door to my work who does them for $25 each with a day turnaround..

You will need to replace the knock sensor wiring harness AND the injector wiring harness under the plenum. After many miles the knock sensors crack and the harnesses become brittle and corroded because of the temperatures they are exposed to under the plenum. Both of the VH45s I have torn down and used in my cars have needed them. Check with Joe at infiniti of scotsdale mention you are from NICO and he will give you a better deal. I think I paid about $200 for the last set I bought.

I was planning on doing a complete clean up of the engine and under the plenum, so at that point I will check all wiring and have injectors cleaned and replace the knock sensors.

I took the car out for a rip up the road last night; even with it running pig rich this thing is a rocket. Now I understand what these motors are all about.. It must be truly crazy in a car as light as a 240sx..

I’m trying to work it out to use the rear suspension in my 300zx as well; there are a couple of articles talking about do this with Z32/S13/s14 suspensions.
