Hopped in the car after a long time of me not driving it (wife's daily commute car) and notice all sorts of bad things going on: terrible suspension, oil leaks, and the danged LEDs for the seat memory on the driver-side door are simultaneously blinking all the time (more about that later). Anyway, that's what I get for not quizzing the missus often enough about the status of the car.
Well, not finding a satisfactory mechanic in the 4 years I've been living in this new area, and having spent outrageous prices for dealer service... well I thought it was about time I got some extra tools and do the valve covers myself...
Uh... oh much easier to do the covers if you take the plenum off (and I did it... yay!!) ... holy cow, look at all the hoses under there... ok... might as well replace those hoses, oy I should check the injectors and o-rings... and go ahead and do the right-side valve covers too...
Lessee... I gotta take this top radiator hose off, dang gotta drop the guard and drain the coolant... what's this? Leaking power-steering hoses!
That, and I've got front and rear Tokico blues on order too.
Still, it's kinda fun. I grew up in the radiator repair and a/c business, so I'm familiar with most things, but I've never done engine work... nor have I worked on suspension.
But you know what? I think I'll do fine because of all the excellent info posted on this forum. For example, it could have taken me twice as long to get that metallic octopus off if it hadn't been for this board.
So... Thanks to everyone who's posted here for all the info, and wish me luck on this huge Q45 repair project.
Oh yeah, about the seat memory -- What's with the flashing lights? I can't reset any of them. They blink simultaneously. When I try to set one of them (for example, the first one) the LED will stay on for one second and then the lights will blink in an alternating pattern. Also, the steering wheel will arbitrarily lower (even with the "cancel" button in the "up" position) when the key is put into the ignition. Could it be the seat CU? We really don't use this thing, so if it's the (most likely expensive) CU then is there some way of disabling it, like pulling the right fuse? I haven't been able to find everything in the included maintenance manual yet, so I was hoping one of the experts here could share with us a quick answer.
Thanks again in advance.
