94 Q45 Losing Remote Key Fob Code

Hi, I was able to program the remote key fob code into the car using the procedure in the manual to get it working. However, after about 15 minutes it no longer works. Can someone explain why the car stops accepting the remote code after a period of time. Could there be something wrong with the security systems memory? How do I get it to save the remote code permanently?
