Hi,

My car has been running rough for a while and not much power. I took it to infiniti dealer and they changed injctor #1 and also fixed a vacuum leak and it ran OK for a few months but now it is back to square one. This morning I ohmmed injector #2, 4, and 8 and they are out of spec (2 read 160ohms and the other two are in Kohms). The #1 which was changed reads around 11 ohms. The car has 146K miles and I decided to change the other 7 injectors myself. I am trying to remove the intake manifold. I have removed all the 16 bolts and few hoses on the side but it is not coming out. Something holding it from the bottom and the back. I wonder if there is a trick to this. I really appreciate any info and your help on this.

Thanks

Welcome to NICO

Use the red search button above to search as there are many threads on how to do this.

Mine is currently apart and will hopefully be running Saturday.

zerothread/245231 (this is my 90 so it is a bit different)

zerothread/246108 (this is a 94 with TCS)

There are many other items that probably need service while you are under there

First off, WELCOME! No, there is no trick to this. You are missing some stuff. Congrats on doing this yourself. As you know you will save lots of money doing it on your own. Plus there are people here that are real "experts". If you haven't already, look at Q45.orgWes has pics and a write up on the plenum removal. That will help you very much. Good luck!

Thanks guys. The write ups were extremely helpful. The plenum is out but took a long time and I wonder if I remember where all those hoses go when putting it back together! Here are the injector's ohms readings:

#1 11 few months old, purple#2 220 #3 114 #4 open#5 31#6 11#7 11#8 1.2K

#2-7 must be the original and are light brown color. #6-7 are within the spec but I think I should replace all 7. Do you agree? seems prices are around $180 and some aftermarket for $50 each. Are aftermarket OK? How about recondition ones?

Thanks

I would be very tempted to put #1 elsewhere and move #6 & #7 to the 1&2 slots. Then if/when they fail, you can replace them w/o plenum removal in a couple of hours tops.

That's, of course, if you can remove them without destroying them.

I had a bad experience with remanufactured injectors back in the late 90's, but lots of guys have had success with http://www.deatschwerks.com. Their web site lists the injectors as 91-94 and 95+, but I think you're actually looking for the second style (95+) for your Q. Check with them to be sure...

Good luck!

Heath

I started collecting sets of injectors just in case, and I've been using them up one by one. I've also become quite good at getting under the plenum, able to get in and out for an injector swap within an hour.

Its really sad how good I've become at replacing injectors.

To answer your question: Reconditioned OEM may be fine, but aftermarket is to be avoided. Basically, what Heath said.

As half the locations in the US still do not use ethanolized gasoline, you have many choices as to where to take the Q and other cars to live out their golden years.

just to give you a progress report. I ordered 6 Bosch OEM injectors and other parts and they should arrive in couple of days. I also ordered a left valve cover gasket since oil has been leaking causing smoke. Getting the valve cover out was not easy and took some force to bend the EGR metal pipe out a bit. It has been hard to work around this engine! I worked on my wifes Mercedes and it is peice of cake compare to this. Couple of questions:I assume I should lubricate the injector O-rings during indtallation, any specific lubricant? With the new valve cover gasket should I add any silicon sealent?

Thanks

Here's a good thread put together by one of our gurus, Jeff Williams. It looks like you do need to RTV the CAS but since you have a 94 the valve cover gaket is OK as is. 90-93 have no gasket and use RTV only.

For torqueing the FSM may show the torque pattern. You can download it free at phat.g20.net. (I've got a hard copy for sale in the classifieds if you need one). If the FSM doesn't specify start in the middle and work your way to the outside, alternating top and bottom in a criss-cross pattern.

Lube those injector o-rings up heavy with vaseline. Make sure the fuel rail grooves are good and clean. They'll plop right in and any excess vaseline will burn off before your engine warms up. Good luck.

Hi guys, the injectors I ordered were Bosch OEM without color (C1000-51461) that matched factory PN 16600-67u10. Unfortunately they are out of stock and today offered me the Bosch OEM with white mark C1000-51462 (more expensive!) Are they OK for my 94? They said the spary precision is slightly different.

Thanks

The injectors need to be the later ones for the later heads, not the earlier single pintle ones for the earlier heads. Don't believe there is a color code on the later ones. Joe will set your straight.

Bosch has three OEM parts that are not single pintle and are for later models. one W/O color, one with white mark and one with black mark physically the same look and shape but apprently with different spray patterns as I was told. The one without color is the least expensive then the while and most expensive is the one with balck mark.

Don't confuse Japanese Bosch with German Bosch.

Call Joe and avoid future trouble and save money.
