I just replaced the 2 lowbeam bulbs and noticed on the drivers side headlight that the mounting tabs on the left side of the headlight were broke off completely, I made a bracket to fasten the headlight until I can get a replacement but also noticed that the whole internal assembly where the bulbs mount moves without adjusting it. If I move the internal mount by hand the vertical adjuster will move the mount up or down but it feels like it is stripped or something because after you set it where you want it if you put slight pressure on the internal mount it will move. also when trying to adjust the horizontal adjuster nothing happens. is there any way to repair/rebuild this? Is the outer lens glued into the rear mount? What's the best way to remove the lens? I saw on the everything infiniti site that they sell the housing but does it come with any of the "guts" or just the housing? Thanks

The first time I replaced bulbs in Layla, I popped loose the internals of the headlight. I was able to pull on it just right, and re-set the part in the housing. I had used too much pressure, when installing a bulb. The adjustment gears are stripped, so I had to take apart teh adjustment gear box, and manually adjust the light, and re-test the alignment several times to get it right.

If your mounting tabs a re broken, then just try to get a complete new headlight assembly from somebody parting out their car.

I'll be looking for a headlight in the future, for now I made a bracket that is working very well using one of the two the existing holes in the Rad support. I removed the adjuster housing from the back of the headlight but all I saw was a plastic gear, So I guess to get to the stripped part you would have to remove the lens??

I have tried to remove the front glass from the housing but found it too risky for breakage. Definately glued in some way. Faced a similar problem with condensation in the headlight due to a small rock hole. I just took it out and let the condensation dry out for a few days then sealed the hole with silicone.

I have pictures of trying to fix the piece you are talking about and the lens seperated in one of my threads. Don't know if it will help you, but sounds similar:

The last 2 links will be of most use to you if you decide to not just buy a headlight assembly.

I removed the lens by heating around the edge with a blow drier, it worked very well.

2 of the little adjuster gears were cracked, and the piece you had a picture of that's inside that goes on the metal bolt was broken also,I ended up making new adjusters from scrap parts I had lying around. Re-attached the lens using windshield urethane and let set to dry overnight,

All was good I had the bubble in the level set the same as the other headlight and the other adjuster was set correctly too, when I backed the car into the road to take it for a test drive I noticed the headlight I had just worked on was pointing very low. When I tried to adjust it something inside snapped and the inside is now loose again,Talk about wasting a whole saturday!!! Anyway I'm looking for a used headlight now but haven't had any luck so fay, ohj one junk yard said they had a good used one that I could have for only $310!!! I told them I can get a new one from the dealer for $285

Be aware that used unprotected headlights will have pitting and hazing from road debris and dust.

New, with protection immediately applied (www.stongard.com) is best, but then your old one will look ragged.

Try polishing with Bon Ami or Bartender's Helper (or is it Friend?).
