The freeze plug on the rear of the passenger side head is leaking, and it appears to be a threaded plug. I am having difficulty finding one (niether the local dealers or infinitipartsusa stock it) and have two questions:

Where can I find one?Is there an easier way to get to it than dropping the transmission cross member and pretzeling my way in?

If I have to do that, is this a common enough problem that I should replace both sides while I'm at it?

Hey 94 -

I had the identical same issue on my 95 Q when I bought it... It's damn near impossible to get to, and it's not really a "freeze plug" as we're used to (like on older motors).

Here's what I did: Get a long-handled wire brush and some brake cleaner, clean the area real, real well. Get some JB Weld mixed up and coat the area well, making sure to press it into the seams around the plug. It'll be a bit messy, but functional. Let it cure for 24 hours and you'll be good to go. My "fix" lasted 6 years, and probably would have lasted longer but something else (unrelated) on the motor gave way.

Absolutely. There are some instances where the "right" way is just about humanly impossible, and using modern band-aid methods is definitely the proper course. Make sure it's clean and completely dry. You may want to let the JB cure a bit first, so it will not tend to run off the surface. Use the original, not the fast-cure.
