My dad's 94 Q45 has a noise coming from the right side of the engine by the oil cap area. I believe it to be internal. The valve cover from a glance in the oil cap was sludge build up. After a oil change a day later he cleaned the engine while it was running. I know that the 94 has metal guides and I want to know what the problem could be as in a list of things to check. Also can I read code off the E.C.U if there is no engine light on? Please get back at me ASAP we're working on the car know and won.t have time to work on it until'= next week when we have some time off. Thank You.

1990? Where did you get 1990? He said its a 94, in the title and twice in the body!

Did the noise start after the engine cleaning? Describe the noise if possible.

Says 1990 in the sig.

In any case, a failing valve guide doesn't necessarily cause noise. Describe the noise better if you can, please. Low cost treatment could simply be some BG Quick Clean or something. VH45DE internals rarely fail.

The dealer said it was the alternator so he is picking one up today. I guess the water got into it, but it starts and drives fine. The noise sounded like rubbing but not too loud. When I drove it to the dealer and turned the music all the way down I couldn't hear it. With the hood is up you can hear it. At first we thought it was the water pump, then the bearings in the pulley that puts tension on the power steering pump. Thought it was the chain knowing that the car already had metal guides we didn't know how the engine was treated before he bought it but all is well thank you all for taking the time to post. PEACE!!!
