One day the car just quit starting, battery went dead.(thought battery was just old/ 4 yrs old) We just installed new battery, cleaned connections, car has new fuel filter and pump. Car Cranks and Cranks and I can hear fuel pump kick on, and smell fuel, but it just wont kick over. What is the next check?? and where are the spark plugs hidden on the car?? Im trying to help my friend figure this out and get this Q back on the road. Is there a common problem?

Often the trick is to understand the Q is flooded and the method to clear this is to: before turning key on, depress throttle fully to floor , turn key on, then turn key to start while still keeping the throttle floored and crank and crank and crank and crank for up to 1-2 minutes until the flooding is cleared and the car starts then let up on throttle.

A floored throttle before cranking signals ecu to cut off injectors clearing the food of gasoline in cylinders.

Yeah that would be the first try..

If it starts to sputter to life just keep going.. Be sure once you get it started to let it get to operating temp (and maybe go romp on it a little to get the gunk out)

Hey buddy. It could be a bad fuel pump or the fuse for the fuel pump could be blown. Or maybe a bad fuel pump relay..... Check if your engine is getting gas.

Never seen or heard of a blown fuel pump fuse or relay since the FPCU fails first.

This is so much fun when this happens! (flooding)

The engine cranks as if there is no resistance and then sputter...sputter...chimmy...shake...sputter. Then several cyclinders catch while the neighborhood fills with white smoke.

I've had it happen three times. Usually during winter-spring stormy weather and fall-winter changes.

Dennis, thanks for tip. I'll remember that!

My best!

Peter

Over the past 14 years the main reasons a Q gets flatbedded [hundreds] in for a no start is flooding, then fuel pump control failure in that order.

For some reason people don't WANT to believe in historical facts
