Hello,I have a 94 Q44 with 134,000 miles. My problem is that my check engine light stays on and has been for about a year now. A checked the codes a month ago and it gave me 34 (KS). My registration is coming up and a smog check certificate is required and the shop tells me the car won't pass if the check eng light is on.I checked the codes again yesterday and got 55 (system ok) eventhough the chk eng light is on solid (not blinking).Isn't it supposed to blink for ECU to get a code? because mine staty on without blinking. Could it be something else (simple, egr cleaning, spark plug or something like that) instead of a KS or injector issue?

How can I make sure what the problem is if the ECU gives me 55 system ok however the chk eng light is still on withoug blinking?

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

this will not fix your problem. having said that you may be able to stop by your local autozone or whatever and they may possibly clear that code.

94 Q is OBD1 so only Consult will read ALL the codes correctly.

KS doesn't usually illuminate the MIL unless there are other problems.

"my check engine light stays on and has been for about a year now"

This is hard for me to fathom that an owner would allow this to continue, what about your 90 day oil changes don't you bring it up to the technican to correct?

Assume your state uses a dyno to measure emissions and you get a free retest if you fail and spend the required amount to correct. Why not fail the test and provide the print out to help diagnosis.

At 134k new O2 are always in order and probably other things.

Tech- Shouldn't the CEL go out after resetting the ECU, especially if the only code is KS which doesn't set off the CEL? In other words, why would the CEL stay on continuously?

Because there is a system failure, an ecu failure, or an unlisted code that has no blink equivalent.

Either way you must repair something, I would have a Consult diagnosis to see what's up.
