Nothing is ever easy.

So, while my brake pads were only a couple of years old (if that) they started making a sound like they needed replacing. Ok, I just figured it ate pads quickly. I ordered a new set from Joe and started to put them on. While working on the front it looked like they were only 50% worn, but I figured it must be rear ones that were wearing faster.

So, I pulled the rears off and to my horror found the rotor to be damaged - the very same rotor I had replaced last time. When I pulled the pad I found the outside pad worn completely out, while the inside was almost new. (Passenger side) What could have caused that? What can I do to prevent it from happening again?

Failure to lubricate the caliper pin properly.

Be sure to turn your rotors. Don't just slap pads on them.

Ok, so how should the caliper pin be lubricated? I figured just cover them with the brake caliper pin grease stuff I get from Advance. I can't recall if I did that last time. I may not have.

I do plan on turning the rotor. Hopefully I won't have to order new ones.

Important to rebuild caliper piston seals.

There are many different qualities of pin grease and they all fry or stick due to excessive temperatures.

Nissan uses a Nissan brand that is expensive but works best. We must have used 15 different brands over the years trying to find the best for less.

Years ago when the pads were fast wearing and dusty there was no problem since brake system was maintained every 20,000 miles or less, now with harder less dusty pads the grease frys with longer interval.

The real solution is to maintain [clean pins] every 20k.

Always clean the pins to shiny like brand new the regrease, use a tool to clean the inside of pin channel.

Things that never happen at a discount store or even dealer.

Been thinking. How would the slide pin failing to work cause only one side to work?
