I just bought my 1994 Q45, but it does not have a cd player, or a changer in the trunk. Will it be better for me to put a cd changer in the trunk and will it work with my factory headunit. Or should I just replace my headunit and will that work with my BOSE system. Thanks in advance.

Is the stock Bose unit still in there? I assume so, since you're asking if an aftermarket will work. I'm wonderng what you mean when you say it doesn't have a CD player. Do you mean it doesn't work?

In any case, two things: 1) The stock bose system should be wired for a changer. 2) You can get an integration unit to use an aftermarket h/u at crutchfield or best buy

Its wired for a CD changer... Depending on your MFG date you can use a 10cd sony (bad) or 6cd clarion (good, what I have)...

I like the changers the best personally..

If you want in dash CD, rex is working on hooking up a 97+ headunit or pathfinder unit into the 94s......

i myself would put in an aftermarket cd player just becuase of the extra features compared to a factory deck but if you do you'll have to bypass your bose amplifiers at each speaker, can be done by finding each amp usually very very close to each speaker and just clip the power and ground wires on the amps leaving the audio signal wires to pass through(use a multimeter and/or testlight to find the correct wires) the easy way would be to buy the cd changer adapter harness and throw one in if your not worried about fine tuning your system if you need any help with bypassing factory amps give me a shout i'm shure i can help you out

I have the BOSE h/u but the cd changer in the trunk is mia. There is a screw on connecter in the trunk that looks like a tv cable connector. I like having the factory look, but It would be nice to be able to put cd's in up front. Can I use the factory amps and speakers if I just change the h/u? Thanks

Here's an adapter that should allow you to use your Bose speakers and their amps.

The "coaxial" cable is for the old built in phone. The Changer connection should be a white-ish rectangular molex style plug, over by the power antenna.

Why would you want to bypass the amps if you didn't intend to reamplify the speakers? I am not doubting you as I see from your handle that you do this for a living. But why just run off the internal amp on the h/u? I got a schoche integration unit to use with my Nakamichi head wiht the factory amps, and find that the sound is much better than it was with the OEM Clarion unit. I'm sure some is sound processing (24 bit d/a), but the 4in drivers in the doors sound so much more precise and clear now even with the radio. The adapter was $40 - Tweeter wanted $40/per amp for the bypass, and an installation fee - so I decided to get the adapter and install myself. Granted I have no idea the specs on the bose amps as Bose refuses to give specs, but I would assume that they are putting out more power than the 20-25W of the internal amp a typical h/u.

with multiple amps i've had problems where installing an aftermarket deck that the deck will power up and play but no sound emitted through the speakers. Thats where you can use those adapters haven't seen them awhole lot or at least the store i worked at so we just bypass each amp or run brand new speaker wiring(instances of trying to figure out the wiring in a bmw or mercedes, they doing some really weird things)

I've got a 92Q and have been using one of those adapters for the Bose system. It works fine. Unfortunately, one of my front speaker amps is shot. Rather than fix it, I'm just going replace the speakers w/ aftermarket.
